Should I be able to see that laser clearly when it's trying to read?

I don't see a bar that would hold the disc at the correct height the disc just snaps on down to the motor which is hooked up to the casing that rides on rubber washers. Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I have a Goldstar 3DO it worked for a few years until it stopped reading the cd's I packed it up for many years until now.
