Re: Was There Ever Supposed to be a ShockWave 3?

Interesting question. Without further evidence it can probably be assumed that the developers hoped that there would either be a third game or an add-on pack like Operation Jumpgate, so left the ending as a sort of cliffhanger. Did EA want one though? Well, they didn't even bother to port 2 to the S...

How to unlock the extras in D Director's Cut

As some of you may know, Disc A of D - Director's Cut contains two options that are inaccessible by default. It's been posted how to glitch into them, but I haven't seen anywhere in English how to properly unlock them. Here's how: "D" Goes Overseas: You will need the original Japanese version of D t...

Re: Road Rash saying not enough memory to play music

This was a known problem back in the day. There were a few games, Road Rash being one of them, that misbehaved on Goldstar and/or FZ-10 models (no idea about the Sanyo). I don't know if a fixed version was ever released, but I suspect not.

Would the 4th chapter be after breaking the stained glass and entering the final hallway before the glass staircase to the final confrontation? Wasn't sure if a beetle could appear there or not, but I might have been running too fast. Either way, I might need to test this out and see if I can get t...

Re: Out of this World: 3DO still got it

While it's a good port, I really don't like the graphic "enhancements" made to the 3DO version. Some of the backgrounds are too detailed and painting like compared to the originals, and don't mesh well with the simple polygon look of the original game. IMO, the anniversary editions did a better job ...

Re: Iron Angel of the Apocalypse: The Return

Use Phoenix instead? It works fine in that, the only potential issue being that the emulator is in Russian. Viktor is aware of the problem with the game in 4do but that's the only option I know of until it's fixed.

Road Rash. Back in the day, I was getting a 3DO for Christmas along with that game. Just before Christmas I had the flu and was pretty much in bed for days, but while I was ill I persuaded my mom to let me set up the 3DO I was getting and play for a bit. I've have really fond memories of that, so I ...

Another problem here. My Firefox history file got corrupted somehow and I didn't have the site bookmarked. Incidentally, searching site:3do.cdinteractive.co.uk now finds zero results on Google. Bing, no problem.

Try selling it on ebay if you want to find the value but my guess is not much. Rare does not always equal valuable, especially with lesser known PC stuff it seems.

Re: Doom on 3DO

How accurate are the emulators for 3do? Bit late to the party but I just spotted this. Reasonable from my perspective but IMHO not accurate enough to use for development alone. There are plenty of games that I've tried that have minor audio or visual glitches. 4do is interesting for use with Doom t...

Re: Top Scratches, the bane of Retro Gamers and CD's

Unless your games are actually not working properly, don't do anything. All you'll be doing is risking causing further damage by trying to fix something that isn't even a problem in most cases. The error correction can cope with a surprising amount of dots, and not all of them are user inflicted dam...

Re: Stepdown transformers

How can I tell if I have a Japanese 3do? The FZ-10's easy: Japanese text in the intro screens + the memory manager is in Japanese. Just let it play with no disc in. To be honest, unless you consciously bought one, you probably don't have a Japanese model. FZ-1: Not so sure but again, there's probab...

Well, I'm figuring that it's a physical problem with the laser but since I don't have a clue exactly what the problem is, I can't remedy it. I thought about trying to re-lubricate the laser sled but it seems to be moving fine, and if that is the problem I don't understand why it doesn't affect all g...

Cleaning the laser might help, then again it might not. My FZ-10 will read CD-Rs if the wind is blowing in the right direction but my FZ-1 has never liked them.

Weird FZ-10 laser problem.

Ok, I recently got hold of a Japanese FZ-10, and it has some issues. Virtually every Japanese and US game works just fine, however it has problems reading some European discs. From the noises that it makes it sounds as if it's constantly having to reseek. To make things that much stranger though the...

Re: 3DO FZ-1 - Noise when lens moves

Both of my 3DOs are noisy but yours sounds different in that video. My only real concern would be that the noise after you load the disc tray sounds rather like the laser banging against the stops, and that's not too good in the long run. That said, my Mega CD has done it to an extent for years and ...

Re: Games recoded for PAL

I'll just add another one here: Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. I haven't tested the actual game speed (I don't have an NTSC copy to test against) but the intro of the PAL version runs too fast on an NTSC console, so they obviously did adjust it to an extent. I seem to recall that 3DO Magazine mention...

So following OP rules it is a 3DO exclusive. Following OP rules yes, but personally I don't believe that they jibe with my experience as a gamer at the time at all. This is new to me but I always thought that Iron Angel of the Apocalypse: The Return (Tetsujin 2) was 3DO exclusive. Turns out I was wrong, it had a Windows port. It's not bad either: the graphics demonstrate Synergy's lack of technical flair (the graphics are bordered inside a letterbox) but the so...

Rise of the Robots was one. IIRC it, of all games, may have been the only 3DO game to fill the screen on a PAL 3DO.

EDIT: Another World must have been as well. The US version (Out of this World) has sound sync issues on PAL consoles.

Nice work on the emulator, it's much easier to use than its progenitor freedo. I can actually use a pad now! It's possible that they didn't consider the European market big enough to be worth revising the games and the gun to be PAL compatible. That said I seem to recall seeing some of their games in UK shops, although I must admit my memory is a little hazy.

The 3DO version of AitD 2 is awful, but the PS1 version is ugly and awful. Texture maps for the sake of texture maps. So to say that the PS1 version is graphically inferior to the 3DO? Aesthetically I'd say so. The problem was that they slapped texture maps on to the same low polygon models that we...
