I'd have to agree with you on that one. My favorite way to buy old games is at this one store I like to visit. They've been in business since 1980 or something ridiculous like that, and they have TONS of stuff, all of which you can ask to examine personally. It's a bit of a drive, but I've always pr...

I'm the Luckiest Motherf*cker Here
I just got a 32" Trinitron TV I found free by the side of the road. It works perfectly, and has all the bells and whistles, including S-Video, three different RCA A/V inputs, and PIP (Picture In Picture), a feature I'll never use but is still awesome (you can tune into two different stations at the ...

This is exactly what I've been saying for years... it's great to find someone who agrees with me. Personally, though, my argument is that, while the 32X DID have its flaws (it was awkward to hook up and never had truly good development tools available for it), it was a CHEAPER system than pretty muc...

Nice! I love Neptune "what if" speculation stuff, I've done a little myself on other forums... Y'know, the 32X deserves more love than it gets... basically, it was a decree handed down by Sega of Japan to Sega of America, who proceeded to do very well within the time and budget constraints they were...

From the Mouths of Babes
A few days ago, I had an interesting conversation in front of the games display at the the local Walmart. Yes, I go to Walmart, occasionally. Don't judge me. It's a bloated parody of consumer culture and a carnival of Humanity's lowlifes at the same time, but sometimes, you gotta get something absol...

Well, it's a matter of optimization. The 68000 architecture, even in its 32-bit iteration, is much better for 2D graphics (the primary focus of this console) than many later processors. The X68000, Amiga 1200 and even Neo.Geo used it, and my thinking is if it's good enough for them, it's good enough...

Sounds like a pretty good machine you've got there... Also, I agree, my fantasy machine would have been expensive in, say, 1995. But, if it were made today to those specifications, I actually think it could be made for a pretty reasonable price. Notice, all the really exotic stuff is optional periph...

Your Fantasy 32-bit Console.
Ever looked at all the amazing technology that was available in the early to mid '90s, and thought "wouldn't it be cool if..." We've all dreamed of a fantasy console at some point. Your personal definition of retro gaming awesome stewed to perfection in a piece of hardware that exists only in your m...

"Age of Flawed Realism", I like that. Sums it up pretty well I guess. I dunno, though. My issue with the past 15 years is not the realism, but more the general sense of apathy toward, well, everything. People decided not to care because things were hard, and as a result, we lost sight of our relevan...

Which is more "90s"
Just that, which console do you consider to be more "'90s" in its overall aesthetic and presentation? The 3DO, or the Jaguar? Here's what I mean. The Jaguar, in my opinion, has to have been the most "extreme" console out at the time in terms of aesthetics and presentation. It was matte black. It had...

3DO Audio Graphic Displays.
I'm wondering something. The only 3DO I've ever actually used is the GoldStar model, and as a result, it's the only model on which I've seen the graphic display one can view while playing audio CDs. I'm wondering, does each different 3DO model use a different display, based on the company, or are th...

[rant]I hate pretty much all the 7th Gen consoles, but the Xbox 360 seems to go ABOVE AND BEYOND to piss me off. Overpriced DLC which won't be available at all in a few years - check. Flaky design that crashes and breaks all the time, meaning it will be nigh-impossible to find a working console when...

Wow, a DAT recorder! I've always been annoyed that that format didn't take off for home use. And it would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddling lobbyists! Funny story, I once found a HUGE box of shrink-wrapped DAT tapes at a Salvation Army store. I was near-broke at the time...

Nice list there... Most of my stuff is either JVC or Pioneer. I have, at present: Audio: - JVC RX-3 FM/AM Computer Controlled Receiver ("A/V Sound" branded, I use it for all my audio). - JVC XL-V450 Compact Disc Player (really nice, lots of arcane features to play with, but it has to warm up a few s...
