Opera system?

In an article about High Heat Baseball in Next Generation 40, it states " High Heat began as a title for 3DO's Opera system. When that died, it was rewritten for M2 ..." What is this Opera system? I've been going through Next Gen's magazines chronologically and this is as far as I recall the first t...

Re: Review - Iron Angel of the Apocalypse: The Return

Hey, good to hear your comments, goldenband. It's been awhile, but I'm glad you were able to try the game for yourself, even if it isn't the best. Good to know that there's a way to skip cutscenes, though it's frustrating that they don't mention it in the manual (at least, I don't think they do, and...

Re: Introduce yourself.

Welcome aboard! Sorry to hear about your troubles with the FZ-1; I've never had any problems with mine. The FZ-10 is certainly the most reliable model by all accounts, though I've never owned one myself.

Checking out the video now!

Re: A moment with Aaron Fothergill -Zoop, Magic Carpet

Very interesting stuff! Thanks for sharing. The stuff about Demolition Man's development is intriguing. I'm personally glad it ended up staying 3DO exclusive. For one thing, the game would not have been done justice without a light gun. Additionally, I feel like Demolition Man is a defining title fo...

Codes

So I was reading Electronic Gaming Monthly's 1998 Video Game Buyer's Guide, and there's a little sidebar in which they cite Gex as having more codes which unlock wacky secrets than any other game they've covered. They also mention PO'ed as a game containing a lot of codes. Not having stumbled upon a...

Re: Does Street Fighter use NVRAM back-up saves for high scores?

I don't have Street Fighter, but in Gex you need to collect a TV remote in the level in order to save. There are a few levels which you can't save after, but you don't need to complete an entire world before you can save.

Re: Recent 3DO Purchases

Congrats on getting Iron Angel of the Apocalypse, too. I played that one via emulation, thinking it wouldn't be any good, and it became one of my favorite 3DO games. Since then I've been looking to buy it legit, but I've yet to stumble on a reasonably priced complete copy.

Re: Was There Ever Supposed to be a ShockWave 3?

Interesting question. Without further evidence it can probably be assumed that the developers hoped that there would either be a third game or an add-on pack like Operation Jumpgate, so left the ending as a sort of cliffhanger. Did EA want one though? Well, they didn't even bother to port 2 to the ...

To be honest, you have me wondering if you're one of those people who calls gaming magazines unreliable because of changing release dates and such where they're simply reporting what the game publishers have said.

Yeah, and the endings are all extremely short. Plus, if I remember correctly they're all simple variations on three main endings, but I could be wrong about that.

At any rate, it is the most fun QTE game I've played, not that I've played a ton of those. Was worth getting for me.

Review - Total Eclipse

[Well, even after fixing my 4DO issues it took me over half a year to get around to collecting the screenshots for this review. Hopefully it's better late than never. Up next is Trip'd...] I've often said that the hallmark of a Crystal Dynamics game is that it is maximally hard while perfectly fair....

Re: M2 Games: Killing Time sequel?

I forgot to follow up on this, but the January 1997 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly confirms that Battlesport was coming to M2. From the sound of it, it would have been an enhanced port. I still haven't seen any screenshots of the game, though, so most likely it didn't get too far along in develo...

Some more info on 3DO games which actually turned a profit... Seems that Battlesport was one of them. The April 1997 issue of Next Generation tells the tale in a feature on Cyclone Studios. Here's a link to some scans of the article.

Re: Various 4DO problems

Oh man, I don't know how I overlooked something so obvious. It's been too long since I've fooled around with emulators, I suppose; somehow I thought the BIOS were already set up when you download 4DO. Anyway, that fixed it. Many thanks! :D I still wish I could get it to play without running as admin...

Various 4DO problems

So I finally got around to installing 4DO on my new computer so I could get some screenshots for my 3DO reviews. The trouble is, in apparently still further confirmation that Windows 10 is the least functional operating system ever created, 4DO won't boot. Not even an error message; the wait icon sp...

IIRC constantly shooting drains more energy and some of the enemies that can hit you drain your energy too. I don't remember exactly how far into the game is level 6. If you give me what cut scenes are at that point id probably remember but I think there should be more than 2 recharges up to that p...

Sewer Shark

Guess it's time for a new thread on this game since the old one hasn't had activity since 2007. I've popped in this newly acquired sucker and have been having a blast with it. The sense of speed and near-constant need to watch for the next turn is exhilarating. The cutscenes are painful to watch, bu...
