Attack of the Mutant Penguins

So, I'm still doing my old magazine researches, and I came across a good article about the Jaguar's official discontinuation. In it, an Atari representative owned up that Atari hadn't been developing Jaguar games for about six months, and that they would release just two more games for the system. O...

Re: Japanese Game Translation "Wish List"

Sorry, I haven't been checking on this part of the forum lately. I definitely second Grand Chef. I'd also love to see Ghost Hunter Series, though I may be unique in that desire. It's just such a deliciously weird game, and I love my first person dungeon crawlers. Blue Forest Story is not a bad idea ...

Re: Zelda's Adventure

The mystery deepens... I noticed on the Wikipedia article, Zelda's Adventure is listed not only as a PAL-only release, but a Netherlands-only release! No source for this claim is provided, and though I tried asking the editor who added it for more information, it's been over two months and still no ...

Re: Review - DOOM

Yeah, I've been wanting to play it myself. I'm intrigued by the thought of playing Doom on the 3DO, and since it only has 24 levels I could whip through it in just a few days. And one thing I've learned from playing the Saturn and SNES versions of Doom is that the merits or shortcomings of Doom conv...

American Laser Games

During my editing on Wikipedia I stumbled upon a former employee of American Laser Games. Check out our conversation here - some interesting stuff about the company's history and their unfinished PlayStation game Shining Sword.

Re: Finally replaced Wolfenstein, someone help though...

This truly is an excellent game on 3DO. Yeah, I was just reading through an issue of GamePro, and in their end-of-the-year awards they actually named Wolfenstein 3D the Best 3DO Game of 1995. Which is pretty crazy once you take into account that 1995 was the year of The Need for Speed, Return Fire,...

Re: My complaint about the 3DO start game exit screen setup.

I can' think of any game where I've had a problem with this, though I haven't played Shockwave Assault. The one thing that threw me for a while is that A, the leftmost action button, is used as the main action button in most 3DO games. I'm more used to the Saturn, NES, Game Boy Advance, etc., for wh...

Very interesting stuff! I've read quite a bit of articles about the 3DO, but always in gamers' magazines; this offers a whole different perspective. Thanks for sharing this.

Which was the level where you have to use a path to get to the top and cant just get up there with the jetpack? There was a bit of a trick there, but id have to play it again to know how i did it. That one is "Spiral", the first "secret level". Let me know if you figure out the trick; going through...

The hand wipes the blood away when you use the drill! Ahhh... Now it makes sense. Good to hear from you again, Fujisan! Sorry to hear POed didn't come out in Japan. But can't you play the North American version on your 3DO? The game has almost no text, and the 3DO isn't region locked. After conside...

Re: Review - Iron Angel of the Apocalypse: The Return

I just found this contemporary review of the game in Next Generation #15 (March 1996) and was floored by how it echoed precisely my own sentiments. The similarity is almost scary, but it's cool to know that someone else out there had the same reaction to the game as I did, all the more so when that ...

Pompous Tartar is about the same again, just a bit more difficult. Not sure if there was another weapon hidden in Medium Rare, did you look down where you find the meat cleaver in Pompous? No, I didn't. Regretting that now! I finally had to give up and consult a YouTube vid to figure out how to exi...

Re: PO'ed

Its been years since i played this, but i do remember a few things. I found the flame thrower good for getting rid of the green slime enemies. Really? I had instinctively thought the same thing, but when I tried it out it didn't seem to work too well. Maybe I misjudged how tough the slimes are. I g...

Re: PO'ed

Now I'm really cooking with this game! (Pun not intended but welcome nonetheless. :) ) I cheated a bit and consulted ewhac's Let's Play to see how to get to the top of "Jump", though I figured out how to get the jetpack from there on my own. Blitzed through another six levels and loving it. "Sponge"...

Re: Flashback

I really like Blackthorne and Prince of Persia which are kind of like Flashback, but I can't get into Flashback because the passwords are so few and far between. It's a slog to grind through an area for 45 minutes or more, and then die, and get put all the way back to the start or a checkpoint that...

Re: Phoenix 3 thoughts?

The term "interactive movie" actually refers to any game where full-motion video is a major component, regardless of genre. Button configuration isn't really a problem for me. I mean, sure, it annoys me when a game has an unusual button configuration and doesn't give the option to change it, or even...

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation

What do you think ? How much would you pay for a 3DO release ? Hey, if people are willing to spend over $60 on Plumbers Don't Wear Ties... So this is a disc which would not wear out my 3DO's laser any more than any official 3DO disc, right? I'd willingly put up 40 US dollars for it, myself. Possibl...

Re: Phoenix 3 thoughts?

I've been tempted to get this, since interactive movies are one of the main reasons I got a 3DO. However, after playing the horrendously bad Snow Job, I don't have much confidence in Studio 3DO's ability to do a decent job with the live action FMVs. More crucially, the more I hear about the game the...

Re: Magazine tidbits

Wasn't that UMK3 that was rumored for 3do, not MK3? The Sega Saturn was originally planned to get a version of Mortal Kombat 3, but due to Sony's exclusivity agreement, by the time they were legally allowed to release it, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 had been out in the arcades for several months. Thus...

Re: PO'ed

30 levels, phew... Not too shabby. It gives me a lot to look forward to. I haven't made much progress since my last post. Two reasons for this. One is that, at one point during "Jump" (level 2), I pushed the button to confirm a save, and instead of saving it booted me back to the title screen. When ...

You sure about that auto-jump? I do have the manual for the game, and it says you have to tap "up" to do the running jump. Plus, I have successfully run off the edges of platforms. So I've finally popped this game in for a proper playthrough (while still continuing with Flashback). What can I say? It's awesome! Okay, I don't like how your character moves like he's on ice, but it's not hard to adjust to and even on medium difficulty, I've found the game isn't even half as hard ...

Zelda's Adventure

I was doing research on this game for Wikipedia and ran into an unexpected problem: I can't seem to find any evidence that it was ever released in North America. I haven't been able to find any coverage of the game in the major North American gaming magazines of the time (Electronic Gaming Monthly, ...

Who woulda thunk it? A USA magazine (Next Generation, to be exact) reviewed Ghost Hunter Series back in the day.
