You may have a cracked gear - grinding is one of the symptoms that I've noticed..

Good luck!

Another problem identified with laser sled FZ-1 & FZ-10...

Hi all, I've been working on a couple of 3DO's that I had in storage, and a friend brought me a FZ-10 to look at. Of course, I went online to see what the typical problems were, and I came up with the 'lube the rails on the laser sled' method. I did this, but the sled still kept getting stuck. This ...

Re: Re:

Just checking out everything on the site, and I'm wondering too, why is this mod so necessary? I mean my FZ-1 (bought used in '96) has been working perfectly for 18 years, I have never noticed any heat issues or over heating in any way...even when it has been placed in areas without great airflow a...

Parts revisions for 3DO CD-ROM's?

I had the motor die on my 3DO FZ-1 recently, and I have acquired a couple of parts machines. From 2 of them, one CD ROM is dated October 1993, and the other is November 1994. These have different style motors (CD motor), different connections to the drive motor, and different locations of the plugin...

Do all FZ-1's have sound on the load disk/meteor flight?

I haven't had the good fortune to have many 3DO's, but I've noticed something about the ones that I have used/tested so far. 1 out of the 3 that I have tried out has sounds when the meteors are flying by, the others are silent. The sound works in the games on all 3 units the same as far as I can tel...

Yep, it's a battery, and it's soldered in by 3 points, two on one side and one on the other. I removed the battery in mine and checked it and it showed 3.2V - which totally amazed me. Maybe it gets a small charge from being plugged in. It does seem a little thick for a single battery, so I've been w...

I haven't watched Mark's reviews, but everyone has to understand that these consoles aren't getting any younger! A lot depends on how they were cared for, and how long/hard it was played, etc. Then again, a perfectly cared for non-abused machine can still die on you. It's part bad luck, part previou...

3DO Technical Documents

I posted this elsewhere, but I figured it was a more appropriate question for the main forum! I remember reading on here somewhere that someone got the technical docs for the 3DO and then was going to scan them in and post them. Did that ever happen? I could really use some extra tech information on...

Technical docs

Hey,

I remember reading on here somewhere that someone got the technical docs for the 3DO and then was going to scan them in and post them.

Did that ever happen?

I could really use some extra tech information on this system!

Well, I went ahead and picked up both types of sinks since they are so cheap. Looking at the FZ-10 motherboard, it looks like only a couple of chips reside under the drive area--the rest appear to be relatively open, so I shouldn't have to do much. Yea, on the FZ-1 most of them are under the metal ...

Hi, I wasn't trying to focus on the negative stuff - I was checking messages at a LAN party and when I read your post it seemed to be telling me that it was a waste of time to do it. I usually respond to points brought up when I get messages, so it may look as though I was only responding to the neg...

A heatsink is a heatsink, how can it be "pretty good stuff" simply because it says sony on it? A heatsink isnt really rocket science. Anyway, does the 3DO really run so hot it needs these? Ive never had problem with overheating, that i know of. Still, its fun to fiddle with your stuff and making im...

That has a TON of wires coming into it, as well as at least 1 higher pin count chip (which looks to be 3DO branded).. bummer

Looks totally awesome! Aside from the cleaning and TLC, how was it done? Was it just the heatsinks and some thermal compound? Where did you get the sinks themselves? My nerdliness is in inquisitive overdrive. Share the precious! Ha! The heatsinks were from ebay, via China - you can search and get t...

I'd definitely be interested in this - buying the part and fitting it myself. I'd prefer to do this to my FZ-10 though (in case we ever get that IDE mod, I'd have my FZ-10 modded, but keep my FZ-1 in it's original state). If it is just a chip swap, I'm guessing it would also work on the FZ-10? I do...

The biggest mods I would love to see READILY available... 1) SD card support. The ability to save games to a SD card or/and the ability to load back ups (isos) and play them. 2) The same ability as above only with a hard drive. Our fellows in the soviet block have figured this out but it seems the ...

Lucky for me I found a much better CD-R mod that doesn't even require you to solder it to the board. It would be nice to have a forgin disc mod I have a cart for that, and you can change the region if you rip the CD as well. It really is a great system, I wish I hadn't overlooked it back in the day...

Great points, guys! Let me try to comment on a couple of points: First, it would require me to either ship my console back-and-forth or mod it myself. I don't distrust you, but I'm not sure I trust you enough to have you service my FZ-1. There's also the fallible postal service to consider, and if a...

Re: Hello!

Welcome to the forum I was thinking about trying out Return Fire sometime. It's pretty fun to play single, but 2 players is just the best! Looking back, I think it's one of the few split screen games that really work! Have fun! Yeah, I had fun playing them again for my recent reviews. Two player is...

My Heatsinked FZ-1

Hey all, I just wanted to post a pic of my heatsinked FZ-1. Did a thorough system clean, including fan, chips, and all airflow holes. All solid copper sinks. I even hit the bridge rectifier since they usually run HOT! She runs soooo cool now! http://www.eanubis.net/FZ-1%20Heatsinks%20branded.jpg

I like the Sega Saturn. It has some fun titles, and you can mod it with Racketboy's mod to make it read cd-r's and foreign titles. If you are interested in modding it, make sure you buy the right Saturn! (Check Racketboy's page online). Anyway, it's fairly easy to find, and the games are pretty fun ...

Hello!

Hi, I used to play Return Fire at a friend's house after work in the 90's, and I've finally scored an FZ-1 player, and both Return Fire titles! I really like this console, and it's been nice to get it going and re-live some of the fun I used to have! I'm working on an upgrade to the 32K savegame spa...

3DO Savegame upgrade - is there a reasonable market?

Hi, I'm testing an option to add 256K to the mainboard of my FZ-1 instead of trying to find the hard to find and too expensive memory expansion unit released in Japan. I'm in the states, and I know this forum is UK, but it was the biggest 3DO forum I could find, and I need an honest opinion on this....
