Re: Flashback

I really like Blackthorne and Prince of Persia which are kind of like Flashback, but I can't get into Flashback because the passwords are so few and far between. It's a slog to grind through an area for 45 minutes or more, and then die, and get put all the way back to the start or a checkpoint that ...

Re: Is this the most active 3DO forum on the web?

I think a subforum on atariage is a fantastic idea. We've got a Jag forum here that at times has had more activity than the main 3do forum ;) and many folks who own a jaguar or are interested in that era of gaming have some experience with the 3DO or own/owned one themselves. That's way better than ...

Re: Is this the most active 3DO forum on the web?

Let me know what happens. I started looking into free forum providers and I could simply make something and start a PR blitz on other sites and YT videos to try and get people to join and post, but if we're able to branch off of a site that already has users and some visibility, that ought to help d...

Re: Is this the most active 3DO forum on the web?

From viewing the users of the forum there is a huge slowdown in new users starting in 2015. New users registered during the year: 2012: 118 2013: 67 2014: 77 2015: 18 2016: 6 Basically the forum is getting no new users. That's a shame, I really don't think that the number of retro game enthusiasts i...

Is this the most active 3DO forum on the web?

I remember even 2 or 3 years ago this forum had a decent amount of activity. Now it's pretty much a ghost town. If the prices of 3DO items and videos of 3DO stuff online are any indication, there is still interest in the hardware and the games, so what gives ;) Where is everyone!

Is Starblade polygon graphics or a pre-rendered FMV?

Never played it on 3DO but was wondering if the 3DO itself was rendering the polygons or if namco opted to stream a pre-rendered video. Anyone know?

The PC-FX says BC-FX on it. The scene is only about 10 seconds long. No one remarks on the 3DO.

Re: At long lost, I've found you!

I wonder if the red discs are a slightly different build to the pack in version, like to fix a few minor bugs or something. I know other system's games that had more than two releases would do that sometimes.

At long lost, I've found you!

Been hunting for one of these casually for about two or three years. Finally got one. Not the best shape and it kinda smells like cigarettes, but I didn't have to pay a collector price either so it evens out. Love this box art, love this game, probably my favorite on the system. http://i.imgur.com/a...

I think the fan is a bit of a failure anyway, it doesn't seem like it pushes much warm air out of the system if you put your hand by the vents.

Re: 3DO dreams

This is not really a 3do dream but an incidence of 3do memories influencing things. As a kid, Crash n Burn left such an amazing impression on me from a store kiosk, I only got to play it once, but from that memory, over the course of the next year, I would try and draw pictures and even wrote a litt...

Re: Japanese 3DO FZ-1 overheating (I assume), discs hard to

See my thread on that subject here: http://www.3do.cdinteractive.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3643 In my case, the pc cdrom drive wasn't a direct swap, but there were plenty of the same components, including the laser unit and the notorious worm gear. In my case, the worm gear in the pc drive was crac...

Re: Copy protection on certain GoldStar 3DOs?

Maybe it is simply the weak cdrom drive lasers not being able to read from CDRs 20+ years on? I have an FZ-1 here that won't read CDrs at all, but will read pressed disc games 90% of the time. I've actually coaxed it to read CDRs just a few times immediately after cleaning the lense, so I know its n...

Re: Japanese 3DO FZ-1 overheating (I assume), discs hard to

Hi there, you might know me as Sirlynxalot on the atariage forums. We were discussing one of my 3DOs over there - the one I am selling that partially works (tends to read commercial discs but no CDRs at all). As an update, I cleaned the laser lens with isopropyl alcohol. All of a sudden, all of my b...

Re: Possible replacement CDrom drive units for FZ-1 (new suc

Since my last post, I acquired a broken 3DO. I went to replace the cd drive with the CR563B and unfortunately it was not a perfect drop in replacement. I already expected I would be using the logic board from the 3DO's drive to control the motors and laser, and hoped that the three ribbon cables and...

Re: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 3do stuff sold on ebay

Well, it looks like source code is included, which presumably could be compiled into an executable. Ideally the art assets disc includes the sprite art for the game to be built with the sourcecode, as it is unlikely that could all fit on the floppy discs. I have a feeling if there was already a 3DO ...

Re: Japanese 3DO FZ-1 overheating (I assume), discs hard to

I got an FZ-1 recently along with about 5 retail games. I had some CDr games as well from a few years ago when I had a Sanyo 3do. The retail games work fine, no serious issues with skipping video or music. The CDr games which worked fine on a different system are unplayable. Often they load but inga...

I have a broken 3do that makes this noise. It is made by the laser inside the sled rapidly moving up and down as it tries to focus on the disc (not the laser sled moving on the track, this is just the laser eye itself moving up and down)

I put in a little time on NFS today to see how close I can come to the times in this thread. I seem to be at least 1 minute behind the fastest times on the first segments. Guess I'll need a lot more practice :)

Re: Possible replacement CDrom drive units for FZ-1

Everything you bring up is a valid point. All of the components in the drives are going to be just as old as the drive in the 3DO, which implicates concerns for the strength of the plastic, expected lifespan for use of the laser, etc. Further, these drives and the 3DO's drives likely came out of the...
