Ghost Hunter series

Was just idly browsing and came across this strange Japan-only, 3DO-exclusive RPG. Got a look at a YouTube video of it and at the least, it looks very different from your typical J-RPG. Anyone here played it? How accessible is it to someone who doesn't know Japanese?

Gosh I haven't really thought about it that way. Those sly devils. :( Well, it generally works out better for everyone. After all, if you're an avid 3DO gamer with 60 games in your collection and are looking for, say, Robinson's Requiem, you're not going to want to have to buy extra copies of Crash...

Virtual Audio QSound wrote:To the other guy, besides RGB capabilities, what exactly about the Saturn's Alpha 2 exceeds the PS1 version? I always thought Alpha 3 was superior while the other 2 PS ports were on par with the Saturn (save for video output).
Here's a page logging the most obvious differences.

Oh Martin.... Grandia! I remember this on the PlayStation, I had been burned out of RPGs for a long time but I had just finished played Ocarina of Time and saw the intro video to this game. It was enough to get me playing. It really was a masterpiece and since I got a Saturn I've wanted to go back ...

'Tis ashame, I'm glad you were able to see passed twisted perception the public has established for Saturn though. If you're a hardware guy then you might be aware of Saturn's raw power. It could run things better than most consoles at the time based off technical prowess. It usually offered the be...

I guess they figured that "Starfighter 6000" would have sounded a little silly.

Yeah, I know... But when I started looking for a 3DO on Ebay, I immediately stumbled on a FZ-1 bundled with every single game I wanted for the console... only to get snipe-outbid in the final seconds. :x Since then I haven't managed to find a 3DO bundle with more than two of my five personal 3DO ki...

i would say that 99.99% of the people registered here have a 3DO :P I still haven't managed to get my hands on one yet, and there are only 397 registered members, so at most 99.75% have a 3DO. :) Yeah, I know... I recently got Gex for the Saturn... may have to get the 3DO version too just so I can compare. I never buy multiple versions of the same game, but I might make an exception in this case, since I frickin' love Crystal Dynamics.

It's a shame there isn't like a video game museam and when a game gets scrapped, it goes there where people could check it out, get a glimpse of things that might have been. Ewww. No. Even the majority of games that get finished are mediocre to poor, and unfinished games are on average games that w...

For what it's worth, the Saturn version is also virtually unplayable. (The Playstation version too, from what I've heard.) It would seem the developers responsible for porting the game just didn't take any pride in their work.

Very interesting! I just took a look on GameFAQs, and according to them this and Super Street Fighter II Turbo were the only two games Capcom did for the 3DO.

The 3DO's final bows

I always find it interesting to read about the last few games released for a console before it was discontinued, those final attempts to pump life into a dying product. Many demonstrate that the developers have learned how to use the hardware better than any earlier games had, while others are slopp...

Well, it could have been worse... The Saturn didn't get its version of Doom until 1997.

If a good port of Doom couldn't save a console back in 1994, there's no way it could have saved a console in 1996. The quality of the 3DO version, while unfortunate for 3DO enthusiasts, isn't what kept the game from being a bestseller. At that point, anyone who wanted Doom for a home console already...

Total Eclipse: You will get mixed opinions on it. Some people received it as one of their first 3DO games and will rave about it. Me, I came from your position--I had a Saturn well before I had a 3DO and I LOVED Solar Eclipse. With that, Total Eclipse was a complete letdown for me. Oh, I'm not expe...

Hey, finally I find some good info on this game. All the professional reviews online say that it's a piece of garbage, but fail to give any real explanation why. I asked about the game on the two major gaming forums I frequent and got no reply on either. Thanks for giving a real overview of the game...

Thinking about getting a 3DO

Yeah, I lied like a rug on the "Textual Confirmation question" in order to register for this forum. In fact, I'm a total Saturn fanatic. Lately I've been thinking: While I am particularly fond of the Saturn, the whole Fifth Generation of video game consoles is pretty cool, and I'd like to own a seco...
