Re: Towers II

Some quick notes I made while playing this tonight. I'll edit/update as time allows but I figured out and documented the poem to escape the Chain Room. I know JagChris has been stuck in there since 1997. When I found the post I LOLed :D I can be more specific than that. I got stuck in that room som...

Re: quake Engine on the Jaguar (Scrummy posts)

I just got the DSP version of approximate sqrt() working, have tested it and I am now pretty certain that it will be accurate enough to replace the other one in most cases. The body of the calculation is 8 cycles (4 ops) but there is a 12bit normalizing shift involved afterwards and the fastest I c...

Re: quake Engine on the Jaguar (Scrummy posts)

Maybe the DSP one can be improved but 5 ops and 23bit result was as near as I got for the traditional way. Note that it operates on 23bit fractions so in/out values are shifted by 1 bit, as is typical for DSP. sqrt macro xysqr, xyroot,Txy move y:<cy_point5,b tfr b,a #<0,xyroot ; : pattern-accumulato...

Re: quake Engine on the Jaguar (Scrummy posts)

So the other thing I had been working on is an alternate way to perform square-root operations for realtime 3D. These are very expensive to perform via 882 FPU and even more so using algorithms on the CPU. Tables help but consume a lot of space to make a real difference and this is useless on a DSP...

startup.s breakdown for hello Jag users!

VladR has been nice enough to share his working through the startup.s file. This for those who don't know this is the file (or one like it with the same name) that bootstraps the Jaguar every time a program is run. First I will start with posting the actual startup.s code from 'Hello Jag users! Than...

No the comment wasn't in jest and I stand by it. Well I'll back off a little on the 'completely' remark. But in large Gamepro and DieHard GameFan were horribly biased. Wasn't Gamepro the one that called NBA Jam on the Jaguar worse than the SNES version? Nope. http://i1019.photobucket.com/albums/af3...

From this context I doubt that I can get away with just ignoring .68000, although there are no M68k instructions in the source. Seems like .68000 also switches back from absolute assembling (to the fixed address $f03000) t...
