Re: Got my Sanyo 3DO today! (now with pictures)

I've owned it for a month now. Still don't regret having it be my "starter" 3DO, or my normal use 3DO system rather than a display piece. It's been working like a champ.

Re: Why I love doing this.

I was just thinking about how people like the Angry Video Game Nerd have used their celebrity to make an infamous unpopular game more famous. For example, AVGN did an entire episode on Plumbers Don't Wear Ties. A youtube video of this episode shows that it has been viewed in excess of 2,300,000 time...

Re: Changing the name

Without knowing any of the context, I always thought 3DO Zone had a nice ring to it. But now that I know the context, I think it is akin to a nintendo forum being titled "nintendon't" - it doesn't bother me, and it's not like there are any other outside groups that are going to make fun of the forum...

Re: Why I love doing this.

This was an interesting reflection. I would say with the advances in emulation, that gives some new life to the old worlds. People who don't even have the console/system hardware, can locate and play a significantly rare game without having to invest the time and money to find and buy the physical p...

Re: Got my Sanyo 3DO today!

As I buy games, I think I might go for Japanese copies. I have located a potential source for games, and with shipping, they are still more affordable than getting complete US copies with longboxes in 2013. Additionally, unlike the US packaging which sometimes does not have any graphics or insert fo...

Re: Got my Sanyo 3DO today!

I asked the same question on the assembler games forum and received a number of replies saying that things would be fine, a step down transformer is not necessary, and the console should be built to a sufficient tolerance for 120v and associated irregularities. Obviously you do nothing at your own r...

Got my Sanyo 3DO today! (now troubleshooting cdrom drive)

I recently bought a Sanyo 3DO off a Japanese website. The description was very vague and said only that it didn't come with video hookups. The price was very good so I decided to take the chance. Ultimately, the shipping fees and cost for the intermediary actually kicked the cost up more than double...

Re: Recent 3DO Purchases

Just got the invoice, the ~$50 worth of stuff will total ~$104 with shipping to the broker's US warehouse and broker fees. So it'll be another $12 or $15 in domestic shipping to get to me once it's stateside. ~$120. For this much, I hope it is in good condition/works! I took a little bit of a chance...

Re: Recent 3DO Purchases

Bought a Sanyo 3DO for $30.

Unknown condition, no controller (bought a Sanyo controller separately for $20).

Although this sounds like the deal of the century... The bad news is that it must ship from Japan - so the set will probably be around $80 - $100 with shipping when everything is sorted.

To be fair, the ridiculousness of the Sturmwind pre order fiasco seem to be due entirely to Red Spot Games, the publisher - and not the development team Duranik themselves.

I recently received a copy of Sturmwind - which is a dreamcast game that Native seems to have evolved into (similar concept, same developers, developers acknowledge the origin of the Sturmwind project as Native). It's pretty impressive on the DC console and the developers had good ideas for how to p...

Crash n Burn codes or unlockables?

I recently beat Crash n Burn tournament mode for the first time on an emulator. It was cool to see the extra cars you can buy in the black market, and to race on the 6th circuit (there are only 5 available in the single play mode). After beating the game, I noticed that none of this stuff - extra ca...

I guess for awhile there, particularly on the sega CD, many FMV/pre-rendered games had the reduced size display. Maybe they figured with the pre-rendered graphics, people would have that concern :)

Did Jag have any PAL or JPN exclusive titles?

I used to own a Jag, which I bought used in 2005. I just got around to selling it this year. From my limited experience (had 2 games, Kasumi Ninja and Val D'isere, and the poor standard controller), I found it to be a very underwhelming and unenjoyable system - and I probably had bent pins on my car...

Greater enjoyment of a game if its on a certain console?

I've been thinking about this lately. I love the dreamcast, and I am getting into the 3DO now too. Similar to the 3DO, the DC wasn't exactly the winner of its iteration of the console wars, and as a result, only has ~220 odd titles released in the US and Europe. As a result, because the DC was my co...

Crash n Burn as a pack in title certainly came as jewelcase only. I think there is a not for resale (pack in) jewel case only version of Total Eclipse as well since that came with my testing station.

Shock Wave and Gridrunners came in jewel case only as pack ins with the 3DO Blaster.

Those middleman services look pretty expensive - like, at least an extra $30 or $40 in fees before even getting to $30-$60 international shipping. Maybe I should just look at already imported ones - the additional fees and shipping would seem to kick the price well over $100 anyway.

Now that I'm selling my broken 3DO testing station and on the market for a new 3DO model - I'm finding myself particularly interested in the Sanyo. No video or sound from 3DO fz-1 / Testing Station console

Crossposting this from my thread in the main forum. I have a 3DO FZ-1 testing unit console that I bought off ebay. The seller said it had disc reading problems, and showed it in pictures hooked up to a TV displaying the 3DO logo, the REAL logo, and the disc tray open graphic. Well now that I've got ...
