Re: Long time franchises?

What long time franchises owe their humble beginings to the 3DO? Need For Speed. Doesn't seem to want to die ever. Gex. Was around for a while, even after he was whored to the 3rd dimension. That is it right? How about D? Enemy Zero for the Saturn(and eventually the PC) is basically an unofficial s...

But don't the Sega CD and 32X versions use some kind of gun? Either the Menacer or Konami's Justifier? It was an honest question, I'm curious if it's any better.. :) I'm pretty sure every version of Corpse Killer except the Saturn version is compatible with a light gun. The impression I get is that...

Gex

Finally played through the Saturn port of this game. The game's scrolling is terrible - I hate having to guess where off-screen obstacles are - but otherwise this certainly has the Crystal Dynamics trademark quality of being maximally challenging but ultimately fair. I love how they use Gex's tail a...

Just about every CD-i game supports the mouse as well as any other pointing device. This is why the CD-i version utilizes it. I believe I read at the CD-i forum that this has to do with a mandate put out by Philips requiring every piece of software to be compatible with as many pointing devices as ...

I remember VMasterJag of YouTube saying that it doesn't add anything to the power of the Jaguar hardware.

The VGC says that 3DO has "easily the best looking version" (and he has played the Saturn port)
I don't think I can buy that. Going by the screenshot he provides, the 3DO version isn't even full screen.

This has actually gotten some discussion recently in a different thread so, heads up, 3DO Exp may move/combine it ... Whoops! I did scan the topics that had popped up during my absence, but I guess I overlooked that one. Sorry about that. So, I gather from that thread that the 3DO version does have...

Creature Shock ver differences

I'm trying to compile a list of the major differences between versions of this game. Part of it is because I'm working on a review for the Saturn "Special Edition" and would like to be able to note how it differs from every other edition, but idle curiosity is probably the biggest factor. I h...

What was better about the Graveyard Edition? Never played it. A belated reply, but here are the main differences: 1.FMV quality is better than other versions. 2.There are four different types of bullets: regular, datura, armor-piercing, and armor-piercing datura. Some enemies can only be killed wit...

I honestly think the 3DO could do anything that the Saturn could do. Panzer Dragoon? Sure. Panzer Dragoon is a very early Saturn title, so while it made a great graphical demo for the console at the time, it certainly doesn't demonstrate its full capabilities. It actually looks terrible compared to...

How many polygons can the 3DO display per second compared to the Saturn? It seems to me that the 3DO has smoother graphics and less jaggies. From what I'm told, the 3DO could display 50,000 polygons per second, while the Saturn could display a whopping 200,000 texture-mapped polygons or 500,000 fla...

When the Microsoft X-Box was released in Germany, a price of 480 Euros was set. And this isn't very far from what the 3DO had cost when it was released. So the price cannot be the major reason. I'm not sure what the value of your currency was back then compared to now, and maybe your statement is t...

Ghost Hunter series

Was just idly browsing and came across this strange Japan-only, 3DO-exclusive RPG. Got a look at a YouTube video of it and at the least, it looks very different from your typical J-RPG. Anyone here played it? How accessible is it to someone who doesn't know Japanese?

'Tis ashame, I'm glad you were able to see passed twisted perception the public has established for Saturn though. If you're a hardware guy then you might be aware of Saturn's raw power. It could run things better than most consoles at the time based off technical prowess. It usually offered the be...

For what it's worth, the Saturn version is also virtually unplayable. (The Playstation version too, from what I've heard.) It would seem the developers responsible for porting the game just didn't take any pride in their work.

The 3DO's final bows

I always find it interesting to read about the last few games released for a console before it was discontinued, those final attempts to pump life into a dying product. Many demonstrate that the developers have learned how to use the hardware better than any earlier games had, while others are slopp...

If a good port of Doom couldn't save a console back in 1994, there's no way it could have saved a console in 1996. The quality of the 3DO version, while unfortunate for 3DO enthusiasts, isn't what kept the game from being a bestseller. At that point, anyone who wanted Doom for a home console already...
