Re: IDE adaptor

And, regarding this product vs. the elusive IDE adapter, what's the size of a full 3DO ISO image set? Interesting question. I've got ~350 unique titles listed in a spreadsheet (copied and edited from a user who was working on a complete list), so if you figure an average of 400MB per title, that'd ...

Re: Review - Kingdom: The Far Reaches

Just posted a review of the Mac OS Classic version of Kingdom II: Shadoan , the sequel to this game that was never released on 3DO (though it did come out on CD-i, apparently). It doesn't belong in the 3DO section, but I thought it might be of some interest. Also, to keep continuity with the above p...

Kingdom II: Shadoan review (Mac OS Classic)

Kingdom II: Shadoan review (Mac OS Classic) As I posted here in the review thread , my fiancée and I recently beat Kingdom: The Far Reaches on the 3DO, after setting it aside for a year. With Christmas coming up, I thought it'd be nice to pick up the sequel, Kingdom II: Shadoan , which unfortunatel...

Re: Review: Peter Frankl - Tower of Puzzle

Some extra bits: Here's a favorable review of the game in French , with some screenshots and a box image for a Macintosh/Windows version of the game (which isn't surprising if it exists). Here's a Japanese page with some more screenshots . It looks to be an educator's page, related to lesson plans f...

Review: Peter Frankl - Tower of Puzzle

Peter Frankl: Tower of Puzzle Japanese title: ピーターフランクル パズルの塔 / Peter Frankl: Puzzle no Tou alternate translation: Peter Frankl: Pagoda of Puzzles (Warning: this is a long one!) There has to be an interesting story behind Peter Frankl: Tower of Puzzle . One wonders what led TBS Multimedia to decide...

Re: Review - Kingdom: The Far Reaches

I'm glad to hear you made some progress in Tower of Puzzle. I played a few of the puzzles then put it down. Yeah, I got all the way to the final puzzle, and then something came up and I packed it in. That last puzzle is very nasty! If/when I do beat the game, I'll probably write a review for the bo...

Re: Review - Kingdom: The Far Reaches

Wizard mode done and beaten! It took us about three hours, and we had no real problems figuring out any of the puzzles. The timed sequence was a little tricky, but the game drops such heavy hints about respawning items that it was all feasible. Funny that we got so utterly stuck on something complet...

Re: Review - Kingdom: The Far Reaches

I think the actual puzzles themselves are easy ... but there's lots of trial & error before you can get to a point where you can even attempt them. Time sensitive type things which makes it a game that isn't really challenging, but nonetheless difficult. You wouldn't want hints from me anyway, as I...

Re: Review - Kingdom: The Far Reaches

The puzzles don’t share the aforementioned challenge however, and though this may disappoint some it does lend a sense of balance to the game. I’ve encountered nothing that was even moderately difficult. One example … I’m standing in front of a stone that has ancient writing in an unknown dialect. ...

I don't know if this affected any of the ports, but: aren't all the emulation compilations of Primal Rage completely screwed up and gutted because of some obscure copy protection issue that got overlooked? If so, then Midway Arcade Treasures 2, etc. don't fully represent the quality of the original....

Never, ever did understand what the thinking was behind that box art for Turtles on NES. I mean, Raphael was always my favourite Turtle, but still... Didn't they originally all wear red? Missed this one back in May, but enjoyed watching it today. I was very pleased to hear more concrete information on the 3DO's price drops after the infamous initial release price. It was especially interesting to hear it was cheaper than the PlayStation when the latter had its US debut. I've played ...

Pre-release discs + "What is Rule #4?" (registration issue?)

There's a gentleman over at Digital Press (and AtariAge ) who recently found pre-release discs (don't know which) of Primal Rage and BC Racers. I'm not sure what stage in the process this represents -- are these the discs that get sent back to devs for testing after they've been signed with encrypti...

I quite enjoyed this! I was especially intrigued by the comments near the end about developers who wanted to bypass the OS for speed. I know there's been some interest in doing that on the homebrew front, but some sources claim it's impossible. Did anyone ever successfully bypass the OS, either abov...

- Region Free? Naah, there were a bunch of region-free consoles before the 3DO. Intellivision, Vectrex, and Game Boy are three that come to mind, and games from any region work on any console (with the exception of a couple Intellivision games which are buggy on PAL systems, and were reissued to fi...

Re: Homebrew game - Where's Derpy (Unofficial Port)

Maybe this will help with burnt CDs. My Jaguar, especially in the winter has trouble reading some burnt discs 'cold'. Which means I gotta put in a regular Atari release first and let it boot in the CD player and read for a few minutes. Then I can pop in a burnt CD and it will read it fine. My best ...
