I received a reply back from RJ. The encryption was kept exceeding secret. He only had a part of the key, even as a executive in the company. He said that "Other than a very secure room, the actual key existed only in one place: in a lawyer's safe somewhere." So, the only hope outside of reversing t...

And don't use FreeDO to test modified images, because FreeDO doesn't care about valid encryption anyway. It can boot unencrypted games without even the need for a special bios (which is the key point, as afaik, the bios just reads the signatures and refuses to boot the disc if they don't match. Fre...

CDOTY, when you rebuild the image, you have to select the folder with your files in it and open it before you click the build button. if you just select the folder, but the files in it are not showing, it will build an image out of the entire area your project folder is in. This might be why your i...

The areas that I've determined to be important are: 0x0000-0x008F Disk label 0x0800-0x93F Rom tags, plus CD directory structure. 0x71800-97057 Banner screen. (It always seems to be located here). I have been able to create a bootable image (under FreeDO), by copying the first 0x1000 bytes to the new...

Thats very odd. I wonder what could be the issue. I've tried it on 3 machines, XP pro & 2 XP home with no probs. I got it to work. It works, if I extract the image, and rebuild it before exiting the program. Haven't read all the posts, but yes, only the boot files are encrypted, or rather, hashed. ...

I wonder if the Lynx encryption shares anything with the 3DO encryption. Both systems were partly designed by RJ Mical. I asked about the Lynx encryption on AtariAge, and got the following answer (Thanks to Karri): It is standard RSA encryption. The formula is: PLAINTEXT = (ENCRYPTED ^ 3) % PUBLIC_K...

Well, to 'rebuild' an image from stuff you may have extracted from a 3DO CD is very simple. There are only two buttons on the front of OperaFS[de]Complier. Click the one on the right, it probably says "??????ISO" if you don't have Russian Language Support. Choose the folder you want to turn into an...

The signature file has no effect on the booting. I completely zero'd out the 0x52000 bytes, and it still worked. I did this on the homebrew iso and On Side soccer. It would appear as if very little is actually encrypted. I removed minmem for the AppStart script, and changed text in launchme, and it ...

Oh, and cdoty, if you hex edit an image, remember to use a prog like ULTRAEDIT32. Others try to convert the image in some fashion, and even one byte out of place and the disc is toast. I'm wondering if this is true. Maybe I was editing a second or third copy. Another part could be that only one ins...

In theory, you could probably strip the files off the CD, making changes to set it to freeplay mode and such, then use the tools the Russian gentleman provided to build a basic image again. Messed around with the overly simple control input setup and some images in SHADOW: War of Succession, and bu...

I'm thinking the encryption is done matting one CD image over another. A friend and I monkeyed with that idea using the 3DO Memory Manager from the memory unit to some (limited) success (title screen pops up) but ran out of time and desire to do it. Since the image file for the Guru is equally smal...

Most companies wouldn't waste the time needed to 'find' all the copies of old SDKs posted on the internet. What 'damage' could they legally sue for? They're not selling it anymore, and they don't license software for use on older systems. So the worst you could expect would probably be a cease an de...

What's this about the game guru being used, though? I've heard a couple passing references to it, now. Is this how the OlderGames releases worked? Is there a discussion I missed? I'm not sure what the purpose of the Game Guru files are. Game Guru doesn't offer any utilities to boot unencrypted disk...

Mnemonic did the encryption on the OlderGames 3DO disks (http://thdo-homebrew.narod.ru/). But he's incredibly difficult to work with.
The last time I talked to him, he wanted $75 to encrypt a CD, which isn't bad.

...But obviously the encryption is reverse engineered from the Game Guru boot loader. I guessed it worked like the swap-dsic thing on the old Playstation. (I might have guess wrong) Do you remember? You would insert an original PS1 game, let it start, hold down the lid button with a bluetac and the...

We need Frog Feast for the 3DO! Every other console seems to be getting a version, why not us? There's two BIG reasons: 1) 3DO Testing or Dev. stations are very hard to come by, unless your willing to pay $300 for one. Freedo can be used for 90% of the development, but that doesn't ensure it will w...

The same realization hit me the other day, but it was about magazines. I would rather read an old EGM than a new Game Informer. (*sh!t*, maybe I'm getting old!)3DOKid wrote:I'm just not excited. In fact - I'm bored.
I'm only interested in one game when I get my 360, and that's NHL 08.

You have to give them credit for putting out screen that look 10x better than anything available at the time.

Has anyone looked at the characters in Onside Soccer?
They look like a mix of voxel technique (from Commanche) and Doom wall rendering technique.

I just got this game today, and have played 3 or 4 matches (or games). The crowd/ambient noise is sorely missed, and there are very few announcer variations. These are the only two glaring negatives, and are common of games in the beta stage. The game is fun to play, and quite challenging. The contr...
