Re: Wii U

It's been a while since your post, but I think it's still worth it for Xenoblade Chronicles X. I've got a little over 30 hours clocked into it and am only a fraction of the way through the game. There are many other great Wii U games as well, particularly from Nintendo, and several that have been re...

Re: For original xbox owners - ATTN -

Damnit! Yet another system that's going to need maintenance in the future. Why can't everything be built like a 2600 or a NES? My XBOX has actually been giving me some random issues, but I think they are specifically drive related. I've heard they are a pain to crack open too--is this true? I'd even...

Re: FZ-1 disc read issues

You could try just popping the laser assembly out of the working one and put it in the JP unit. Remember that the laser assemblies just pop right out, so it's kind of hard to mess them up. That could solve the issue where your JP system will close on its own, but the US one won't (i.e., by hitting t...

Can't vouch for Autobahn Tokio personally, although watching videos of it I can say that it looks like it'd be painful to play.

Interesting! It would be great to see if better performance can be had out of this version of DOOM. A playable 3DO DOOM would be awesome!

Original discs are perfect. I tried about ten different games and they all boot up immediately. It still won't read a single CD-R though, which is odd.

I'm so glad these weren't included in the game. Not that it would have really made the thing any more worse than it already is, but still. :P

Re: Wolfenstein 3D Aarrghhh!

I never realized this version had all the levels from the PC original. I always played "The Original Encounter" which is the top option when you start a new game. I thought that was just a compilation of all the selectable episodes below, but nope--each of those episodes are recreations of the level...

Re: FZ-1 disc read issues

The two metal bars aren't even necessary. I thought about leaving them out when I put my system back together. That said, they don't screw to the drive itself, so you should be able to still get the drive out of the metal bracket without removing the two metal bars.

Re: Japanese 3DO FZ-1 overheating (I assume), discs hard to

A while back I received a replacement CD-ROM drive. I went ahead and decided to finally attempt to swap it out yesterday. I didn't really know what I was doing but managed to figure it out. Swapped the laser assembly (that part just pops right out), put everything back together, and low and behold, ...

Re: Copy protection on certain GoldStar 3DOs?

Maybe it is simply the weak cdrom drive lasers not being able to read from CDRs 20+ years on? I have an FZ-1 here that won't read CDrs at all, but will read pressed disc games 90% of the time. I've actually coaxed it to read CDRs just a few times immediately after cleaning the lense, so I know its ...

Re: 2nd model Panasonic gamepad vs 1st

JP2X feels better to me than the original. Not as bulky (but still a solid size) and the d-pad doesn't have issues. The d-pad on the JP2X is nice, but still not quite up there with the Genesis six-button from the mid-'90s and the Saturn Model 2 controllers. It feels great but doesn't seem to feel qu...

Re: Japanese 3DO FZ-1 overheating (I assume), discs hard to

A friend over at AtariAge sent me a PC-CD drive that uses the same components/parts as the FZ-1 drive. Hopefully soon I can crack open both it and the FZ-1 to see about doing a swap, assuming it's in my range of capabilities (i.e., not very capable, hehe).

C'mon, the story segments were really just filler anyway (in the case of the Jag version especially). Stealth elements? While it would be a nice inclusion, if you played this game slow you were doing it wrong. Guns blazing is the only way to go. :D The PC version will always be the best to most (lik...

I initially didn't have any interest in this one due to the poor framerate, but watching more videos is making me care a bit more. It looks to me like the framerate is inconsistent but veers more towards tolerable most of the time. I haven't watched very far into it. Remember that, unless the video...

It's funny you mention E3 from 1995. I coincidentally watched a video yesterday showing 3DO's booth from that same E3. They were "showing off" the M2 and touted the footage they were showing being real in-game footage. You can clearly tell it's a FMV mock-up instead of the real in-game engine. Lying...

Isn't standard animation framerate supposed to be a "silky smooth" 24 frames per second? Is it possible to see a split screen comparison that shows this "lesser framerate?" I'm no animator, but in videogames generally 60fps is considered "silky smooth", not 24. I'll be receiving a Skunkboard in the...

I finally got around to trying normal discs yesterday. I tried Icebreaker first and played it for about 40 minutes. I then swapped to Soccer Kid, but it wouldn't read the disc. It would try, but then it would just spit it back out. The disc is fine so I'm not sure what's going on. I then tried Shock...
