Does the 3DO version have in-game music? For some reason I thought the Jaguar one was mostly silent in-game asides from sound effects. Been a looooong time since I've played it though so I'll surely need a refresher. Yep, you're right. I've never owned a Jaguar, but I've seen videos of the Jag vers...

I just had my first session with the game in days, but made up for it by clearing through three floors, albeit mainly because levels 4 and 5 went real quick. Level 4: Arrgh! More gargoyles! Plus carrion crawlers, which didn't seem worth the trouble of attacking, even if it is cool to see enemies whi...

This is the last of my Jag reviews to be updated w/a few pics. I do think they make for a more enjoyable read. Does anyone know an exact date when this game was released? I couldn't find anything concrete, but it seems it was well after the Jag had been discontinued. Is that the case? This was rele...

Woah... nearly hit a brick wall on level 3. First came the gargoyles. I can't hit them with my staff, and for whatever reason, the spell "Flame Sword" just hasn't been working. I've tried it before, and all I get is that irritating error sound. The only thing I've got that can hurt them is sling and...

Just to be clear, we are talking about repeating identical phrases one on top of the other in rapid succession right? Not simply repeating the same phrase multiple times throughout the course of the level? Right. I remember points where Gex would even interrupt himself with the same phrase: "Sweet,...

Now that I've got that bit of pedantry out of the way, as to what I would consider meaningful exclusivity: Even though I'm very much a console gamer, I generally don't consider games such as Star Control II to be exclusives. The presentation between console and PC just isn't different enough. That ...

Re: Slayer

I got through the second level with few problems as well, except for the beginning, where there happened to be a large number of monsters clustered. It's pretty cool how the slimes are so small that your character has to look down to effectively combat them. A good way to get players to use that fea...

Slayer

I finally got around to reading through the manual for this game, so today I set off on my first quest! This game really impressed me from the beginning, so I figured I'd use this space to keep a log of my first playthrough. I rolled myself a male human cleric, neutral good. Puzzlingly enough, no ma...

I think most of us agree that PCs don't really count when talking about console games. Now if you want to count or not count console games for different systems in different countries it's easy enough to just use the term "English". I mean Symphony of the night was on more than one console but if y...

I beat this game in DOS, but i never on 3DO. it's one of the most under rated games we have on the 3DO. I've seen a lot of negative reviews for this game, and i just dont get it. I love everything about this game other than starting out so weak. The frame rate is the main complaint, isn't it? I've ...

I don't think Plumbers Don't Wear Ties can really be called a game (even though they admittedly make that claim on the box). There are bonus features on some DVDs which have a similar level of interactivity to Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, and no one would consider calling them video games. So, I don't...

I'd probably buy most of my old games from a store if that were an option for me. Sadly, the nearest independent game shop is more than an hour's drive from where I live. I'm stuck with Ebay. Or with online game shops, if I feel like paying an arm and a leg for common games.

If you can't reach any of the guys at ALG, you could also try the folks at Digital Leisure. They apparently acquired the development and publishing rights to most of the ALG library, and have been porting the games to modern consoles. They might know something.

Given the low licensing fees and such for the 3DO, I would think at least some of the ports (esp. ones like Dragon's Lair and Myst) and low budget titles would have made a modest profit. Sadly, though, I have no hard figures to back that up.

Like the Lynx, Atari had a cutting edge unit they didn't know what to do with (or refuesd to) I know I was bitter towards them ... My story is actually somewhat similar to yours, Arfred. The 3DO wasn't before my time (and it's my 7th game system, rather than 18th), but it certainly wasn't known to me at the time. Even my brother knew of it but had no idea it cost anything like $700. So I too got my 3DO less than a year ago.

Funny that the SNES version of Doom should come up, as I was just trying that version out via emulation. Can't say that I find it good for anything beyond curiosity value; while many aspects of it are done very well, the graphics are so poor that they interfere with the gameplay. In many cases it's ...

I know Crash 'n Burn, Monster Manor, and Total Eclipse are '93, for sure. Actually, a while back I had quite the discussion with a guy over Total Eclipse's release date, and he explained to me that though the game was copyrighted in 1993, it wasn't actually released until January 1994. For proof he...

Gex is great, so much so that I'm keeping an eye out for the 3DO version even though I already have it for the Saturn, purely for historical interest. It doesn't have quite the degree of polish that Crystal Dynamics's later games would have, but it more than makes up for that with the ingenious desi...

Biggest problem with Brain Dead 13 is the fact that they compressed the whole game onto one disc. Same thing happened on the Jaguar version. The fact that the 3DO version is multiple disc really helps it very much. The game is absolutely gorgeous on the system. Controls are tight and it sounds beau...
