I've been figuring out how Blue Forest Story works with some initial success but still some more technical work before I can start really translating.

We are back on Google! Hopefully that should liven things up around here. :D Thanks, Devin, for your efforts in getting us visible to the wider world once again.

Re: Out of this World: 3DO still got it

I enjoyed the 3DO version a lot more than I expected -- certainly more than the Sega CD version, which I didn't like at all. But the SNES version is still nearest and dearest to my heart. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking since it was my first version of the game, but despite all the slowdown, it ha...

The main thing to get this site active again is to get it relisted on Google, since right now it's blacklisted. I know the issue is on Devin's radar.

Excellent -- glad to see both of your replies! :D I agree with Martin III that a game like Short Warp would be nice -- or any game where it's just a matter of replacing a few messages or UI buttons. It might seem minor, but there's a lot of virtue in making a game fully accessible, even if you can s...

Re: Japanese Game Translation "Wish List"

Oh, man, this thread is music to my ears. :D Blue Forest Story would be a great choice, and a reasonable top pick if the text on disc is easily accessible. Grand Chef (Oukoku no Grand Chef) would be another top pick in my book. Theater Wars also seems promising. Down one tier from that would be game...

Re: Is this the most active 3DO forum on the web?

I think the most logical solution is to try to get the Google spider un-banned. The CD-i forum has no issues with that as it comes up in a Google search, so I don't see why it can't be fixed for the 3DO side. I completely agree, but the admin have been completely non-responsive. :( I think maybe 3D...

Re: Is this the most active 3DO forum on the web?

Is it possible to unban the spider? I know I initially found this forum via google. I think they may have tried to, but it could be that the ban precipitated a blacklist that remains in effect & needs to be addressed manually, e.g. by contacting Google directly. Unfortunately the diagnostics one mi...

Re: Is this the most active 3DO forum on the web?

One of the admin somehow banned the Google spider, and now the site is blacklisted from both Google and Bing. (The CD-i side of things isn't blacklisted, just the 3DO half.) That, more than anything, is why it's so quiet -- and frankly the CD-i side isn't doing much better, since as far as I can tel...

Re: 3DO and Gex sales

I've never been able to find reliable total sales figures for the 3DO, though I've seen everything from 1.38 million to 2 million. But there have been non-pack-in games with a 50+% purchase rate among console owners -- I think one of them was a PC Engine CD game, though I can't remember what it was ...

Terrific progress! That font is more than adequate for the task at hand -- I actually rather like the way it looks. :) I've never been clear on how we'd handle patching 3DO ROMs, given the encryption problem. ROMHacking.net doesn't allow ISOs, but what's the alternative in this case? I guess it'd pr...

Re: Recompiling Dr. Hauzer for Translation

Great news! And great to hear that the font is a straightforward bitmap. Variable-width fonts can be tricky to implement, but if you're able to pull one off that'd be fantastic. :) If not, we can live with clunky but readable fixed-width text.

Re: Recompiling Dr. Hauzer for Translation

From my end, the problem is that I simply don't know how the 3DO handles fonts: is there something at the BIOS level that renders them with anti-aliasing and so forth, or is it just tile-based graphics like what we see on 8- and 16-bit systems? Do developers have the option of either approach, or is...

I can't figure out the format of the font information, but by copying the first part of the file (minus the header) to a text file and changing the encoding to Shift-JIS, I can see what I think is the approximate vocabulary of the file: "),-0123456789:;=@H_ 、.:?!ー()「」=#*12345GHINOTぁあいうえぉおかがきぎくけげこごさし...

It seems to be a graphics file, so I'd have to cut/paste a font in place. I've been searching for tools to view/edit the font, but I'm a bit lost since I haven't done this before. Re: Recompiling Dr. Hauzer for Translation

Just so I understand this, are you hex-editing a graphic file, or a text file? In conventional ROMS, with the right tools, it's usually easy to cut-and-paste font image data and just plop a different 8x8 or 16x16 Latin-alphabet graphic in the space where a Japanese character used to be. I don't know...

If it were me I'd systematically step through the different hex values to build a table and see if Latin characters were hidden somewhere out of order.
