Have to teleport back to where you were ... it isn't a glitch in the strictest sense (thd new rooms are just empty w/no items or doorways) but is annoying nonetheless. Not only is it not a glitch, in all likelihood it wasn't even unintended. Dungeon crawlers are labyrinthine by definition, so any r...

Well, I beat it. Turns out what I was missing was the two eyeballs from the two witches. (Why, of all the objects lying around the mansion, does Lance think it would be a good idea to take those ? :? ) The finale is actually pretty fun. Totally trial-and-error, but it has a very good rhythm to it, a...

Really makes you wish someone had localized the Saturn version, doesn't it?

I don't mind occasionally forking over $60-70 for an old RPG, but yeesh! Three digit figures for a generic offering that reportedly can be finished in less than 10 hours?

Dang. I noticed that reviewers rate Brain Dead 13 much lower than Dragon's Lair or Strahl, and since the footage in BD13 is obviously cooler than in either of those games, I had assumed their gameplay must be better. And... now I seem to be stuck in BD13. According to an FAQ I checked, there are fiv...

Power Rally. Topdown racers, 3DO had none. Sounds like the opening of a riddle. "Topdown racers, 3DO had none. This console's best racer, is 3DO's best racer's port." Or something like that. :) Raiden is one I would definitely have had to get for the 3DO. I remember being blown away when I saw vide...

Brain Dead 13

I've started playing this game. Good thing I went for the 3DO version and its superior video quality, 'cause I'm not getting much enjoyment out of the gameplay! The illogical mapping of buttons to certain actions occasionally reaches ludicrous proportions, like the battle with Moose where you dodge ...

Btw, I forgot to mention that Towers II for the Atari Jaguar (1996?) Yep, December 1996. Over two years after Slayer, yet it isn't even half as graphically impressive. Personally, I decided to pass on Towers II when I saw (via YouTube videos) how bland and poor the graphics are. The gameplay could ...

Two NES games to suggest: Destiny of an Emperor - I'm sure paintings must exist of at least some of the generals in this game. These could be digitized, touched up a little so that they look alive, and there you have some nice realistic-looking portraits. For battles, instead of the crude sprites on...

I've popped this in again for a few more plays. I have to say, I'm increasingly impressed with how well the game is attuned to repeated playthroughs; each time you uncover a little bit more of the mystery, pull off a different course of events for the same scene, and get a better sense of the story....

I find it's better to wait until your opinion is fully formed before starting. I'm not one of those guys who begins writing a review before he's even played the game through. Slayer has the option to look up and down, though I haven't experimented to see if it affects your aim. It seems likely that it does, since they have enemies which crawl on the ceiling and others which are very short of stature. I'll have to give it a try. Let me clarify. Games that don't give you ...

Maybe Martin will want to compile all of the play through and add a short overall thoughts to the top and post it in the Reviews? Well, as I once told someone in regard to Dragon Force (Saturn), to do a decent review for this sort of game, I would need to play it through with at least three differe...

Yeah, I wouldn't have used such an obscure example, except that Mazes of Fate is the only real time dungeon crawler that I could think of which has been released since Slayer. (Though I can think of plenty turn-based dungeon crawlers which don't have weapons animations either.) So: I finished the du...

I was actually just looking into this game a couple days ago. Discovering that most of the FMV isn't full screen was a turn-off, though, as was the extremely washed-out color palette. Everything looks so bland. It's a shame, because I too thought that the relatively non-linear gameplay sounded quite...

Thanks, guys. I enjoy writing this up just for the sake of recording the memories of my first run, but if people enjoy reading then all the better! :D Floor 12 threw two enemies with long-range attacks at me: Bone Nagas and Death Knights. Floor 10 was fun. Loaded with Green Hags, which in most cases I was just barely able to defeat one-on-one before exhausting my healing spells - good thing I worked to get that level up! Well, I took you guys' advice and got a loose copy of the game off Ebay, for the relatively cheap price of $20 with shipping. It was tempting to go for the Saturn version - I happened to spot a complete-in-box copy for the same price as the loose 3DO version - but I'm happy with my choice. Having a ...

Qcombus also uploaded the manual on the "First Impressions" thread, but sadly that doesn't seem to be working anymore either. :( I went ahead and hunted down the rest of the Medusa on floor 8. Very interesting; I never noticed this either. I suspect the thinking at the time was that the 2D shmup genre had become antiquated. I myself find it hard if not impossible to see anything in the genre that isn't retained or improved by the rail shooter perspective. Even 3DO Experience's suggestion ...

Easy?! Only by Crystal Dynamics standards! The game's plenty challenging by design, but the combination of vertical scrolling and the inability to look up or down makes it a pain in the butt at points - you can't know, except by cruel experience, whether you're jumping down onto a platform, a bottom...

Level 7 was interesting. I had my first encounter with Greater Medusa, which are quite fun to fight. They're little threat; while their paralysis spells are effective, they spend most of their time casting them, which is good for me since the spells do no actual damage. On the rare occasion that the...
