This is what Sega should've done MegaDrive / Genesis is released in 1988 / 1989 MegaCD / SegaCD is released in 1991. It's not only an expansion (CD-ROM media) but also an upgrade with more powerful CPU processor and graphic chips. This actually happened. The SegaCD had a 2nd 68000 CPU and also a cus...

Saturn 2 and M2 would've ruled that generation if they had been released and given the chance to succeed. Both would've had enough 3D horsepower to run games that developers wanted to make, and gamers dreamed of. Both could've handled upgraded conversions of Sega Model 2 arcade games (given that M2 ...

unreleased, rumored 'Saturn 2' that would've rivaled M2
3DO fans constantly dream of the unreleased M2 console. Well, there was a possibility of a Saturn 2 console (years before Dreamcast) that never happened. It's much less 'solid' than M2, in that there is no confirmation that it existed. However there were many reports & rumors of a Saturn 2, based ar...

I posted this in the big M2 thread but not here, from the book "The Xbox 360 Uncloaked", which basicly says the same things as what's posted in this thread In late 1997, Nintendo visited CagEnt in search of a new 3-D chip set. 3DO transformed itself into a software company but it eventually went ban...

Reminds me that I also uploaded a short but nice crash video: http://www.retro-net.de/imsa_crash.avi That's VERY nice. Looking at that video, it convinces me that M2 could've handled an exellent port of Daytona USA, without the severe sacrifices that had to be made to run it on Saturn--Sacrifices t...

The Mardi Gras video is really very impressive. I never thought IMSA Racing looked particularly good until I saw that video today. Thanks for posting it. The only games that looked more impressive were Sega's Model 3 arcade games, such as Scud Race / Super GT, which was of the same timeframe as IMSA...

"Sega Saturn M2: The Facts" article
http://www.gamespot.com/pages/unions/read_article.php?topic_id=25962473&union_id=12112 Sega Saturn M2: The Facts So, here's the question of the year. What exactly is going on in Sega? Well, let's look at our facts: 1. Sega has confirmed to us that the next hardware out of them will be a "hardware on...

on-topic: This shows that the 3DO-designed M2 technology, whether it was in a (canceled) console or a Konami arcade board, was capable of handling any of the SEGA MODEL 2 arcade games without compromise, such as the game similar to Evil Night, original House of the Dead which ran on MODEL 2C. So M2...

slightly off-topic babble: Here's an impressive real-time demo of SGI Onyx2 with InfiniteReality (actually IR2) graphics technology from the late 90s, an update (but same generation) of the IR graphics system introduced in 1996. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrgdjzPwQDo That's really really fast, s...

If I recall correctly, Next Generation was based on EDGE but they didn't share 100% identical content/articles. While some articles (maybe even most) were probably shared, I'm pretty certain each magazine had content the other did not. Even if an article on any given subject was very similar i don't...

Some (not all) of the paragraphs on 3DO, 3DO M2 and MX mentioned in the book "The Xbox 360 Uncloaked". Holmdahl needed more engineers to keep driving down the costs. That was a good thing for Baker and the others who had lost their Ultimate TV jobs. Their group was a tight knit circle. They had all ...

If Trip was playing this game demo that looked too good to be true, it was either some kind of trick, or, it was realtime on some highend SGI workstation or even higher-end SGI visualization system, not on the M2 chipset. Imagine you're at a press event where Nintendo is hyping the Nintendo64, what ...

The theoretical M2 and the finished product were so nebulous, sadly. I was there when Trip Hawkins demoed the possibly fake racing game. Looked great... but nobody ever got a chance to try it out like he did, so there was no proof we had seen actual gameplay. Which racing game? the futuristic one f...

Here's a cleaner (better than YouTube) version of the pre-rendered CG FPS demo used to hype the M2: http://www.leemarrs.com/animation/anima_index.html It's the 4th video down "Shooter Room". Nintendo almost used 3DO / CagEnt MX chipset for 'N2000'
From Next Generation Online (April 1998?) posted to usenet: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.video.sony/msg/b4477af5daddd0c7?dmode=source Although experts acknowledge that the video games business is surprisingly incestuous by even Jerry Springer’s standards, recent developments taking place...

Someone scanned some of the later Next Generation magazine M2 articles (which makes me wish I could read the rest that were not scanned) a few years ago. I followed M2's development as close as I could, and even though I'm an outsider....I'm not a developer, I have no inside info on M2 or anything 3DO.... I do remember alot of things that I read over the years. M2 was in no way anywhere near as powerful as Dreamcast. However, it was 2 to 3 times more...
