This is what Sega should've done MegaDrive / Genesis is released in 1988 / 1989 MegaCD / SegaCD is released in 1991. It's not only an expansion (CD-ROM media) but also an upgrade with more powerful CPU processor and graphic chips. This actually happened. The SegaCD had a 2nd 68000 CPU and also a cus...

Saturn 2 and M2 would've ruled that generation if they had been released and given the chance to succeed. Both would've had enough 3D horsepower to run games that developers wanted to make, and gamers dreamed of. Both could've handled upgraded conversions of Sega Model 2 arcade games (given that M2 ...

unreleased, rumored 'Saturn 2' that would've rivaled M2

3DO fans constantly dream of the unreleased M2 console. Well, there was a possibility of a Saturn 2 console (years before Dreamcast) that never happened. It's much less 'solid' than M2, in that there is no confirmation that it existed. However there were many reports & rumors of a Saturn 2, based ar...

Ultra 64 / Nintendo 64 controller was revealed in 1995, IIRC.

That M2 controller, I remember first seeing it in Intelligent Gamer Fusion magazine in 1996.

I posted this in the big M2 thread but not here, from the book "The Xbox 360 Uncloaked", which basicly says the same things as what's posted in this thread In late 1997, Nintendo visited CagEnt in search of a new 3-D chip set. 3DO transformed itself into a software company but it eventually went ban...

Reminds me that I also uploaded a short but nice crash video: http://www.retro-net.de/imsa_crash.avi That's VERY nice. Looking at that video, it convinces me that M2 could've handled an exellent port of Daytona USA, without the severe sacrifices that had to be made to run it on Saturn--Sacrifices t...

The Mardi Gras video is really very impressive. I never thought IMSA Racing looked particularly good until I saw that video today. Thanks for posting it. The only games that looked more impressive were Sega's Model 3 arcade games, such as Scud Race / Super GT, which was of the same timeframe as IMSA...

Honestly, I didn't look, my appologies if it was already posted. I just stumbled across the video while searching, was so excited to find some new M2 game footage that I thought I'd post it here immediately.

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/unions/read_article.php?topic_id=25962473&union_id=12112 Sega Saturn M2: The Facts So, here's the question of the year. What exactly is going on in Sega? Well, let's look at our facts: 1. Sega has confirmed to us that the next hardware out of them will be a "hardware on...

on-topic: This shows that the 3DO-designed M2 technology, whether it was in a (canceled) console or a Konami arcade board, was capable of handling any of the SEGA MODEL 2 arcade games without compromise, such as the game similar to Evil Night, original House of the Dead which ran on MODEL 2C. So M2...

If I recall correctly, Next Generation was based on EDGE but they didn't share 100% identical content/articles. Some (not all) of the paragraphs on 3DO, 3DO M2 and MX mentioned in the book "The Xbox 360 Uncloaked". Holmdahl needed more engineers to keep driving down the costs. That was a good thing for Baker and the others who had lost their Ultimate TV jobs. Their group was a tight knit circle. They had all ...

Yup, I've seen the video of the other segment of the pre-rendered FPS demo, it's on YouTube and other places.

Hoping someone comes up with a vid of that FPS battle in the tight cave-like corridor.

If Trip was playing this game demo that looked too good to be true, it was either some kind of trick, or, it was realtime on some highend SGI workstation or even higher-end SGI visualization system, not on the M2 chipset. The theoretical M2 and the finished product were so nebulous, sadly. I was there when Trip Hawkins demoed the possibly fake racing game.
