Ok this is stupid and I know probably getting old but does this system play VCD also or not? Also is there a list of CD only games anywhere I could check out cuz I am really interested in these old cd based systems than the cart based stuff.

1. No.

2. Sort of: http://www.atariage.com/software_list.h ... mID=JAGUAR

To save you a tiny bit of hassle, here's a list of CD games off the top of my head:

Blue Lightning (pack-in)
Vid Grid (pack-in)
Myst Demo (pack-in)
Battlemorph
Myst
Hoverstrike: Unconquered Lands
Baldies
Primal Rage
Braindead 13
Space Ace
Dragon's Lair
Highlander
Iron Soldier II
World Tour Racing

Those were all official releases during Atari's time (IS II and WTR were released shortly thereafter while Telegames continued to support the platform). There are more releases that I won't name more or less from the homebrew community, as well as touched-up versions of previously cancelled games (for instance, Robinson's Requiem was just released a month or so back).

Another note, the Jaguar CD arguably had the best console visualizer up until Jeff Minter's modern one for the XBOX 360.

By the way, AtariAge is a good source for your Atari questions. You might just want to sign up there, or at least browse through their rarity and hardware lists for basic questions like this.

ok thanks. Yeah I frequent AtariAge from time to time, mostly when I have a question pop in my head, I just wanted to see what people would say if I asked.

Well I finally had a look at the list and I gotta say it had some good potential.

Thank goodness for homebrew ... other wise we'd be lift w/a miniscule library, 1/2 of which is subpar ports.

Yes and no. A lot of homebrew is released on CDs, some on carts as well. The stuff by Songbird Productions can also be considered homebrew, although their games generally consist of once-cancelled games released on cart with some finishing touches (i.e., Skyhammer, Total Carnage, Soccer Kid, etc). These games are officially licensed from the companies that own the rights to these titles: http://www.songbird-productions.com/

By the way, ROMS aren't an iffy subject if they were openly announced as public domain, or given away free by the original developer (again, a lot of Jaguar homebrew like the Reboot stuff, as well as Icebreaker II for the 3DO here).

Gotcha. That's cool that it still gets real games made for it then I knew Dreamcast still did somewhat but I always thought everything else homebrew was just roms. good to know.

Did the CD add-on provide any more hardware capabilities to the Jaguar like the Sega Mega CD did? (more RAM, ...etc)

Thats a very good question I would also like to know that. In the AVGN review of the system he commented that he thought it should have just been it's own system. I didn't think that made much sense, because I thought that all it does is add a CD drive to the Jaguar.

I would think they probably planned to add some sort of a VCD module for the Jaguar CD, but seeing how it failed so quickly they never had time too.

I remember VMasterJag of YouTube saying that it doesn't add anything to the power of the Jaguar hardware.
