I was a programmer for the Killing Time PC version

Post by MichaelMadDog » Sun May 26, 2013 7:01 am

Thank you! :) Although I almost didn't get here. I wish there were an easier way to find out how to register for the forum because for someone looking to join, it's next to impossible to find out how or who to contact. Fortunately, I found someone to help me find out what the fourth rule was, and even then it took me 3 tries to get an exact string match for it.

As for Killing Time, I have word that a new interview from one of the level designers is underway :)

Well both the register button and the forum rules are very easy to find. Plus it's pretty much a copy and paste. I got tired of having to delete a dozen spammers every time I logged in. Most made by the same person who plagues many retro gaming forums. I'm glad you could join us.

Hello!

Another Killing Time fan here!
Just thought I'd share something surprisingly rare.
This is a pre-release demo of the PC version. It has a different looking map and texture placement, and allows you to explore the grounds, but no mansion (And there doesn't appear to be an end in this demo).
It also works under 32-bit Windows without problems, at least on Vista.

Link

I also remember that the original developers tools for both MAC and PC versions were released at some point but they've since disappeared.
Any other PC / 3DO version rarities / previews are most welcome.

A career troll huh? Good of them to find time to visit our little forum.

Great files! Runs but doesn't display properly in Win7 64x. Off to test in virtual XP! :D

Thanks and welcome to the forums!

EDIT: No work in XP mode, will have to try an actual 32x XP system.

Some issues with the demo I've found, Music doesn't change in different areas and ghost videos don't play either. Still exploring the map though, there could be secrets. :)
I've only managed to get the retail version working when running in XP compatibility mode, it runs ok but the ghost videos need to be removed from the folder or it wont work.

Demo VS Retail:

- Different/unfinished map
- Different textures
- Different pain sound for bootlegger enemy
- Different item placement

Other Killing Time files which I haven't found:

- MAC Demo version
- 1.1.1 Update for MAC Retail
- 1.2 Update for MAC Retail and Demo
- 1.3 OS-X Update for MAC Retail

Super glad to see a renewed interest in this thread

That's what I heard, too. I tried a few times to resume the interview with him but haven't heard back yet: he was in the middle of a big move, and he might still have a lot on his plate. Hopefully he'll get back to me sooner or later, because he had some cool stuff to say.

I also got an email from the feller who did the PC weapon rips, offering better rips as well as map tiles and other goodies. Haven't sifted through 'em all yet. I think he's hoping to eventually get a Doom TC of Killing Time underway, but at present it's just a daydream.

Found some more odd screenshots.

Image Image Image
The first two look like they may have just been place holder graphics or proof of concept work, but the third one looks like it could have been an early version.

^ those screenshots...look at the back of the PC version of the killing time box I posted...they literally used them for advertising on the back of the box lol

still a head scratcher as to how that happened?

They did the same thing with promoting the 3DO version on certain boxes. For instance, on the Goldstar system box they advertise Killing Time, but it's clear the screenshot is pre-rendered and isn't from the actual 3DO game.

The same screenshot from the Goldstar box (when they used the old "Time2Die" title...also the title of one of the levels/musical tracks in KT) can be seen on the Soccer Kid 3DO disc in an extremely early teaser trailer for KT in the bonus section of Soccer Kid

Bonus section? I have Soccer Kid for the 3DO but haven't gotten to really dig into it yet.

or "preview" section...or something along those lines haha

I know it's easily accessible from the main menu of Soccer Kid though
