So I suddenly feel very dumb and out of the loop and I don't mean to derail the thread, but what is this Pegasus you're referring to?T2KFreeker wrote:I know the feeling. Pegasus item, something mythical. Anything I really want bad but can't get my hands on due to being almost impossible to find.FrumpleOrz wrote:So I suddenly feel very dumb and out of the loop and I don't mean to derail the thread, but what is this Pegasus you're referring to?T2KFreeker wrote:I know the feeling. I dont mean to be rude, but it has been asked before without a clear answer really, so im trying once more as i seriously would like to know your motivation.
Why do you keep so many duplicates of almost everything? I could understand one duplicate.. one to play, the other to keep minty fresh. But man, this is hoarding!

Silentman is right. I do it partly for trading.
Most of the duplicates were purchased in bulk lots, or group purchases in order to obtain a certain title or piece of hardware that I didn't have in the collection. This results in a lot of duplicates.
One of the reasons I haven't devoted much time to parting with extras is I wasn't 100% sure what all I had. This collection stretches back 12 years and is stored in multiple locations. This being the case, I was a little hazy on which items I had or did not have.
In addition to getting enjoyment from the platform and the collection, one of my motivations for amassing this lot is the hope that it will be a sort of museum to preserve whatever impact 3DO and M2 had in the history of gaming.
Alright, thanks for the elaborated response.
I can get behind the museum idea, but you dont need 4+ duplicates for that hehe..
I have also collected for the 3DO for as long as you, but not even close to the same level, partially due to income. But i do hope one day you will pass on some of your duplicates to other people, building their own collections and providing them with new gaming experiences.
That said, its your stuff and you decide whatever you wanna do with it, i just think its a little sad seeing so many sealed copies of common games, which could have been played instead, if you know what i mean. Nothing personal.

Let's get something straight real quick. My collection is not stopping anyone from buying/building their own 3DO collection, as implied in your posts.
If I multiplied my collection 10 fold, 3DO games would still be plentiful and available.
By definition, if they are common games, my having some sealed copies does not present a problem to someone else finding a copy of said game because, well... they are common.
Most people looking for "new gaming experiences" aren't going to be interested in factory sealed games, and most people looking for factory sealed games aren't going to be looking at their sealed games for "new gaming experiences".
I sell and trade items to other 3DO and M2 enthusiasts all of the time. As a matter of fact, I just assembled and sold a complete US 3DO library on Ebay a few weeks back providing someone with an instant collection that could take years to complete.
Not to worry, the evil 3DO hoarder is loosening his vice-like grip.
...And I just think it's a little sad that some people treat video gaming as some sort of neo-quasi-socialist-religion, if you know what I mean. Nothing personal.

I never said that I did. I said that I had duplicates primarily because I have been buying bulk lots for a long period of time in search of particular titles.grimm wrote:I can get behind the museum idea, but you dont need 4+ duplicates for that hehe..

My response was probably a little harsh, and so I will apologize for that.
However, the underlying message carried by your posts comes through quite clearly. You disapprove of the way that I collect and feel the need to let me know it.
Had you simply asked why I have so many duplicates and what I do with them there wouldn't be any problem. But you didn't. Even after I told you that I trade my duplicates you still proceeded to tell me that "you hope one day I will pass on some of my duplicates" and "it's a little sad seeing so many sealed copies of games which could have been played".
I guess I have two problems with your posts:
(1) The notion that the world would somehow be a better place if only I would let go of some of my duplicates.
(2) The fact that I do let go of my duplicates and you completely ignored that when writing your second post.

You probably wont believe me, but i had no implications or notions other that what was written in words. Im simply a very blunt and direkt man, and this sometimes makes people like yourself misunderstand me, since many people DO have underlying meanings..
Sure, i dont particularly like seeing so many of the same items just being stored in a collection. But like i also said, it is YOUR collection, to do with what you will.. I had no intention to tell you "what a dick, hoarding all this stuff!" or anything remotely close to it. Only what i expressly wrote, which was just an opinion and no judgements.
I didnt see it as necessary to comment on what you did with duplicates since you had already said you used them for trading etc.
Im not here to argue, so i will simply stop writing in this thread now.

I guess it depends on how one defines hoarding. In bitrate's case, even though he has a ton of duplicates, he has been pretty generous w/our tiny community when you stop and think about it ... he has shared stuff that I (and I bet most of us) never even knew existed. When I can see pics or vids of games, accessories, articles, etc... of stuff I've never even heard of, let alone seen, it's like going back to the mid 90's all over again. At least the collection is in the hands of someone who really appreciates.
Most wanted - Eye of Typhoon, 3DO Magazines issues #14 & #15, Pro Stadium, Defcon 5
I appreciate that you are trying to clarify the situation, but I didn't misunderstand your posts. The underlying message and words written are one and the same.grimm wrote:You probably wont believe me, but i had no implications or notions other that what was written in words. I'm not sure how many different ways I can state the same thing. The games are NOT just being stored in a collection. They are traded (or sold sometimes) whenever I see something new or something that I think should be upgraded in my collection.grimm wrote:Sure, i dont particularly like seeing so many of the same items just being stored in a collection.
As I stated before, just 3 weeks ago I took one copy of every game in my collection and sold a complete US 3DO library.
But then you keep saying that the games are just sitting in my collection???grimm wrote:I didnt see it as necessary to comment on what you did with duplicates since you had already said you used them for trading etc.
If you go back and read my first response to your question, you will see that I answered without any sarcasm or grief even though I had a feeling for where the topic was headed.
It wasn't until you started with the morality preaching and hinting at the ridiculous notion that I am somehow making it difficult for others to collect for the 3DO that I decided to take issue with your posts.
Thank you for the kind words Trev.Trev wrote:I guess it depends on how one defines hoarding. "The underlying message and words written are one and the same." No.
Just read my pm bizrate and please take it seriously. Ive tried to explain myself there. If you still wont believe that, at least i tried. But aparently you seem to hate me now, and have no intention of changing that no matter what i try to do to explain things to you in private, but instead choose to further the argument.. This time was the last time i got sucked back in here. I tried to reconsile, i failed. Its all i could do.

grimm, I don't hate you. Far from it. I have replied to your pm, so you should understand that I don't disklike you.
I just don't agree with what you are saying because (a) I am not doing that which you take issue with, and (b) even if I was, there is nothing wrong with it.

bitrate, would you PM me link to that listing, please?bitrate wrote:As a matter of fact, I just assembled and sold a complete US 3DO library on evilbay a few weeks back providing someone with an instant collection that could take years to complete.
Looking for sealed and rare 3DO games and stuff. Just PM me about what you have to offer.
If anyone wants to hate anyone, hate me. I traded a Canadian boxed Super Street Fighter for a boxed Dinopark Tycoon about 13 years ago. Dinopark is going for what on Ebay now? $120,000? $254,000? I should haul it over to the Antiques Roadshow... Appraiser drops the Ming vase, "Oh my god! It's a boxed Dinopark Tycoon! That's worth like 89.7 million dollars!"

If you found Dinopark Tycoon on Storage Wars, it would definitely be over a million dollars.

OK next time you do this give me about a week and a half heads up and what the "buy it now" price is going to be. This will give me time to convince my wife to spend that much money in one shot.bitrate wrote:As a matter of fact, I just assembled and sold a complete US 3DO library on evilbay a few weeks back providing someone with an instant collection that could take years to complete.

Small request that they all be already opened boxes as I love to play my games .. I can't seem to keep any thing sealed
