I have spent the last few days with about 20 coasters trying to find the best way to burn 3DO games for my FZ1.
As we all know the minimum burn now is 4x. If you try to burn in Win 7 or Vista I always got a coaster. However I came up with a plan to have Windows XP as a virtual Machine using VMWare. I then burnt my disc through this at 4x and all of them work flawlessly. no skipping etc.
No Idea why but if you are having problems try XP !!

The 4x was a very good speed for older cd-dvd writers,
with the todays hardware its not the best to write slow.
Maybe its best to use 8-16x

Hm, weird. Haven't had many problems myself when burning at 4X. Actually, I've had a lot less trouble with 4X than anything faster.
It may also depend on your cd writing program less than your operating system (I use Nero), as I'm in Windows 7 as well.

I use Burn running on Mac OS-X. I've burned at speeds of about 16x, and have never gotten a dud. Keep in mind, I'm also using a GoldStar, the least reliable 3DO model known to humanity.
Either Mac OS is the solution, or Burn is.

I recently tried burning at the max speed and the disc still came out working just fine (FZ-1). I think I am not gonna waste my time burning it at slow speeds anymore.

I don't think that's very healthy for the FZ-1 lens, and come on, it doesn't even take that much time. =/

It was just an expirement, I'll probably go back to slow speeds just cause. Really I don't play burns very often.
