Virtuoso
Well, I finally managed to buy a copy of this game! I tried, I tried to like it. really, I tried. Challenge unbalanced, random enemies, bad level design and lame animation. I left something out? Ah yes. the music is terrible!
This is the kind of game that gives the 3DO a bad name.

Re: Virtuoso
I thought it was laughable, myself, and gave up on the game when I couldn't figure out how to exit one of the first areas. But weirdly, the Video Game Critic actually liked it.
The character design and protagonist are just pathetic, though, and I agree that it's a bad look for the 3DO. But then again I have a certain fondness for VR Stalker, so one man's trash, etc.

Re: Virtuoso
This game is reportedly finished for the Jaguar and is in Telegames hands collecting dust. This was apparently confirmed by Elite.
What came after the Jaguar was the PS1 which for all it's greatness, ushered in corporate development and with it the bleached, repetitive, bland titles which for the most part we're still playing today. - David Wightman
Re: Virtuoso
I saw a video of a demo of the game supposedly running the Jaguar, but seemed to be the PC version. Goldenband, I like VR Stalker, too.

Re: Virtuoso
This game is indeed tragic. Elite released this but not "Footie" or "Powerslide" - yeah good work guys.

Re: Virtuoso
Space Hulk - D grade
Draxons Revenge - C+ grade
Total Eclipse - D grade
Seriously?
He is obviously entitled to an opinion, as are we all. But let's face it, he's not me is he?

Re: Virtuoso
I disagree with tons of his opinions on games, but because his priorities are generally so consistent, his reviews are often very useful to me.Austin wrote:Yeah.. I sometimes wonder how many actually care about his opinion these days.goldenband wrote:the Video Game Critic actually liked it.
To put it differently: I don't care about the grades he gives games, but his reviews give enough info that I can often figure out whether I'd like a game based on the information + knowing his preferences (he likes simpler games, dislikes anything with a learning curve, etc.).
He's dead wrong on Gain Ground, though. Top 5 game on the Genesis, but he gives it a D-.
More seriously: I don't really care about anyone's opinions on games per se, in that I'm not offended if someone doesn't like a game I appreciate or vice versa -- I've learned my tastes are idiosyncratic and I'm often unmoved by games people think are awesome, or engaged by games people think are crap.
Lazy reviews irritate me, though, and a few of the VGC's reviews are pretty lazy; Destination Earthstar is the worst in that department (not because DE is good, but because he overlooks half the game!).

Naaah, I've seen muuuuuuch lazier. Besides, from what I remember of your reviews you're the good kind of lazy, i.e. amusing and non-egotistical.3DOKid wrote:...for the record, I'm the laziest reviewer ever. Sorry.
I remember strongly disagreeing with one of them, though, maybe Taiketsu Rumii-zu?

You disagreed with me? Ban request: Section 3, sub-section 2.1, clause 4.

Re: Virtuoso
I've always had a vague sort of curiosity about this game, since it looks so different from anything else. Maybe I'll emulate it one of these days. I don't think I'll ever stir up enough interest to buy it, except perhaps as part of an Ebay bundle.

Hopefully it remains that way. Jag fans aren't missing a damn thing here.a31chris wrote:This game is reportedly finished for the Jaguar and is in Telegames hands collecting dust. This was apparently confirmed by Elite.
