Alone in the dark 1 help?

I am stuck at the pirate. My energy is very low to the point if I get one hit I die. I can't seem to kill the pirate no matter how many times I use the sword.

Sounds like you, my friend are in a pickle. You try harder like 3dokid suggests but, alas, 3do controllers are limited! Nothing better than old games with design flaws, but its part of the "charm". May I suggest this little fella:
