Parting with stuff.

I have a re-occuring nightmare, that is me in 60 years, surrounded by piles and piles and piles of stuff, after a lifetime of hoarding.

And so, every so often I chuck loads of stuff away, things that've cherished, like for example my perfect Edge Magazine (next Gen in the US I think it's called) collection. I gave away about 100 copies, tried to get rid of the rest and eventually binned the remaining. I've sold off N64 games, my Ps2 collection of games, and mountains of PS1 stuff and Saturn stuff - but so far barely anything from my 3DO collection has been sold-off.

And I don't think I will.

Do you guy splurge and purge or do you just keep one game on the shelf at all times?

nah if i post anything now its to hopefully sell it

the past 3 years ive thought about selling some of my system collections but i would need to use ebay to get the most $$$ for my collections, so for now im parting with the most expensive parts of my collections on various websites

In my opinion resale value is rubbish compared to the opportunity to rediscover a book, magazine, game or DVD. So if it's something I intended to buy for personal consumption then I keep it. Still have an old Windows 95 PC sitting right next to me as I type this! Although I should mention it's not in daily use these days!

The bottom is dropping out of the retro market at the minute. A quick check of eBay and there are plenty of part collections on there. Even 3DO stuff. A lot of Japanese only games too. I large high street retailer in the UK (GameStation) has just scrubbed all it's retro stuff from the shelves.

It goes in waves, by the time we have 360Lite, a PSThree and Wii2 (Poo?) the prices will back through the roof. It's when people get bored of the current gen, and start sniffing around looking for something new.

The current generation is just getting into it's stride - it's no supprise.

If anyone wishes to sell me a big box copy of Luciennes Quest, then I would happily talk to them (money waiting

I've sold my 360, XBox1 and more than 60 games in order to
push the money into retro games, especially 3DO. I'm planning
to grow my 3DO collection next month (a new FZ-1, US long box games)
and a 3D HMD this year, as well as a few WipEout 1's and 2097's.
In 2006 I gave away a GameCube with 8 games to an orphanage
in Belarus, no joke. It's still there.

And the current Gen is just Style, Press X, use a sword and get style-
time-freezepoint. Wii did not hold what promised: A Revolution.
Just old games with new controlling. But where is the Virtual Reality?
And PS3 and 360: Racing, RPG, Action, Shooter. The same as it was when they build the pyramides. With new graphics, but less interactivity.
I'm not impressed.

I sold my first 3do FZ-10 as a wee lad at a yard sale. Realizing my folly, I later picked up a new in box Goldstar in 1999 and rebuilt my collection. Retrogaming is a great thing to pass the time inbetween the AAA releases. But I'm thinking I might sit out a generation for the first time. At least for a year...

I love better graphics, but for the GC, PS2, XBox generation, the improved graphics brought better gameplay, better frame rates, resulting in more fluid control. No huge innovation but a solid improvement. This doesn't seem to be the trend this time around. Don't forget, the 3do brought in new gameplay with its improved graphics and sound, well at least for consoles. A good example of graphics bringing in new gameplay was Splinter Cell. That game simply would've been drastically different if we saw a PS1, N64 version before the PC/XBox, it just wouldn't have played the same (I know MGS is similar but it is more action oriented). But now, my beloved Splinter Cell looks to become a sandbox style gta crap fest (don't get me wrong I like gta, but its emulation in other games sucks). The only thing we seem to have this time around is shiny graphics, more lens flare, consoles that break like a PC, and motion controls that are hit or miss (just use that damn thing like a mouse!!). End rant!

I liked Splinter Cell, and I, like you, prefered the old nearer to MGS Splinter Cell than GTA. I started to get turned off by Splinter Cell by the 3rd game. It was getting carried away with itself. I would have prefered another Splinter Cell 1, with different locations and missions but essentially the same. You're right, another GTA clone doesn't really appeal.

To be honest, another GTA doesn't appeal either. I loved the original top-down PC versions of GTA, and I really liked GTA3, but by Vice city I was tired and I never bothered with GTA:SA.

You might like Uncharted.

Sandbox games are all well good, if you can think of the possibilities, but if you just want to shoot stuff, and be told a nice story, then...

Half Life 2 was pretty good. (but I gave up on the 1st episode!)

CoD4 would have been better if the single player had been a bit longer. I refuse, flattly, to play online.

I still reckon Luciennes Quest is tops, only because you're lead around b ythe nose, the characters are kind of funny, and it takes about 25 hours, which in my book is alright. Less and I've been diddled, more I can't be bothered. A week to finish a game is enough

Alone in the dark, I thought, was brilliant. The next installment, due for PS3/360 fills me with complete apathy.

Why couldn't they have made an Alone in the dark remake, with uprated graphics, but not shiney, curvy 2008 rubbish graphics, but good solid 1995 arcade quality graphics. So we can still see the polgons and stuff.

I used to sell some games & systems, but I rarely do anymore. I usually just end up buying them back for more than I sold them for ...

Ive parted with everything except the stuff i just can't let go of. I have 13 Sega saturns from different country's an about 500 games for them,, Each model dreamcast as well. I found it easy to ditch my atari 2600, intellivision, colecovision, ie, everything from that era. Was fun at 1st to collect, but i never played any of these.

Ditched every ps2 game except for all the GTA's and the Japanese version of Trapt (Kagero deception2). Ditched the xbox & 360, ps3 has never been taken out of the box.

Although the 3do's have been close to getting on ebay, they are now in the category of really like and keep.

Retro is fun, but if you're not really into an item i recommend Ditch it.

Trapt is an excellent game if you can get past the flawed camera and annoying slowdown. I had tons of fun with it.

yeah, if you don't play them no need to keep them. I still play my 2600, the newer systems get less play then my old ones. mostly been playing 3DO and Saturn lately.
