How would you describe yourself as a 3DO collector?

I buy games to play them. But at the same time, I have a bit of a collector's mentality in that I prefer complete items in good condition.

I said "Not a collector" because I won't buy something I don't want to play, but maybe I'm a light collector that prefers quality over quantity.

i voted heavy as thats what i turned into after deciding to collect all the US released games then i moved onto other things that i wanted but they had to be boxed and junk
i havent collected for the 3DO in the past 2 years that much, except to get some boxes for games i have loose

I put myself as moderate. I would like to eventually own one of everything, but I'm taking my sweet old time about it. I'll buy pretty much anything that is 3DO related if it's cheap, and I keep my eye open for deals and BuyIt Nows on eBay that seem like bargains. Now, if push comes to shove, I'll thrown down for a 3DO rarity if it's a once in a blue moon sort of thing, but I don't have a budget to go on a rampage where I feel I must own all the 3DO stuff and have it right now.

I voted heavy, but I have a similar point of view as Mobius. I like complete games in good shape, but I buy them to play. I cannot imagine having sealed copies of games just to look at  ... I must play them!
I did start off just buying games that looked fun, but now I'll buy anything (well, most anything) w/a 3DO logo on it. Thankfully I honestly do love most of the games in the 3DO library, and even with the poor ones, I usually find something I like. I also love collecting accesories, magazines, etc... and anything M2. So I think that bumps me from moderate to heavy.

I voted overboard. I pretty much grab anything I can with a 3DO logo on it, and I've been doing that for around 6 years now. On the one hand I strive to complete a factory sealed library and on the other I have to have complete opened copies to play. Like others here, I almost enjoy the piss-poor titles as much as the accepted good ones.

I'll buy anything 3DO. Anything that appears on eBay. And I'll bid hard too. I've got people in Japan getting me stuff and I've dragged my wife all over Tokyo looking for Junk-software stores that I didn't really know where they were. I found my copy of Policenauts in one such store. I shipped mild-3DO-porn, innocently, to my mother-in-laws house in Tokyo... I borrowed money from people I didn't know to get my original 3DO. I still have the original receipt.

I'd probably be a confessed rabid video game collector, though the CD-i and 3DO have always had the fondest of places in my heart.

As to 3DO, there isn't much I don't have that I still want. (ack, never buy in lots on e-bay 600 million copies of Total Eclipse & It's birds Life!... RUN!) The few that elude me are the Rockman game that, according to Capcom Japan, was 'released in an extremely minimal amount' and few misc. titles. Anyone have the Spectrum Holobyte presskit that featured Star Trek for 3DO? (yes, I guess I am that rabid) Mostly I guess I'm down to collecting rare video promos for games. Would LOVE the CES Worldbuilders promo if it still exists.

Oh, and if end up in Bangkok, the store called MARIO in the central Pinklao is a haven for retro game fans. ALOT of nice stuff there for dirt cheap!

I voted myself as "Light" but I think based on my collection others might see it differently.

Light, the 3DO is among over 30 systems that I own and collect the games to. It's somewhere in the middle of my list.

This is an interesting poll from way back in the day. Vote and comment if you missed this one.

Right now I consider myself in the "light" to "non-collector" range. On and off over the years I've come and gone with the collection. And granted, my 3DO collections have never been anywhere close to the size of the hardcore here, but 40 to 50 CIBs has been seen in my collection at various times over the years. Recently though, I downsized as much as I could (without wanting to kill myself afterwards, hehe), so my current 3DO "collection" consists of the Japanese WARP titles, another import or two (like Doctor Hauzer.. at least, I think I still have it), and a CIB Wolfenstein 3D. Anything else I've decided I can play via.. *cough* ..other means.

As long as those "other means" are inferior PSX ports.

What, Saturn ports are totally unacceptable?

I voted "not a collector". Granted, I'll occasionally buy games like Burning Soldier, which I would have had no interest in if it weren't cheap, or if I didn't already have a 3DO. But mostly I stick with games that look really good (Slayer, Psychic Detective, Wolfenstein 3D) or in some way tickle my interest (Night Trap, Space Pirates). I won't be buying Mad Dog McCree or Ballz, no matter how cheap I find them for.

Lol, didn't mean to snub the Saturn. :P

No loss skipping Mad Dog (unless it's in the Gunslinger collection) It's a steaming pile on 3DO.

Ballz is an acquired taste I think, but it has some nice atmosphere and polish.

I VOTED "MODERATE"...
although, if I'm honest, I have no desire to own every 3DO game one day. I just enjoy researching, buying and collecting 3DO games, but I won't just buy any old title nor does it have to be overly cheap for me to qualify the purchase either...

I voted moderate. I'm trying to collect a complete PAL 3DO collection. I believe there are 81 PAL releases and a few that are debatable as to whether there PAL or just a loose US game with an EU rating sticker slapped on it.

81 RELEASES YOU SAY?...
Do you have an accurate source of information detailing these specifics (re: PAL releases)?

I have many PAL releases myself, and prefer to get them > US or JP where I can, but I actually don't know in many instances, if certain titles even got a PAL release! (i.e. UK developer Psygnosis' stuff like Novastorm & Microcosm for example? Plenty of JP copies, but never seen UK versions. Us versions pop-up sometimes)

Cheers...

Yeah it's all from my own research, trawling the net for the last year or so as I prefer the PAL releases to US and Jap ones also. My criteria PAL classification are:

(1) The box mentions PAL i.e. 'This title displays in letterbox format on PAL 3DO systems

(2) The box has an EU age classification label printed on the artwork. There are a few games with these labels stuck on the cases, but to me these are debatable. They could be just loose US games imported to be sold in the UK an example of this is Daedalus Encounter. The versions I've seen labelled as PAL releases are identical to the loose US version with an EU sticker slapped on the back. I personally don't count these as PAL releases but that's just my opinion.

Not exactly scientific, but it's a start lol.

I've never seen PAL versions of the Psygnosis releases (Novastorm, Microcosm, Lemmings) which seems strange considering they were a UK company, I can only assume that the US versions were sold here. Maybe someone who was buying 3DO games at the time can confirm?

I can post my list of 'confirmed PAL releases' if you like.

THANKS FOR THE INFO BEARD...
and yes, please do post a list of your confirmed PAL titles.

Might even be a good idea to start a new thread to try and generate interest on the subject. Surely some of the other long-timers here know a thing or two with regards to how many actual confirmed PAL releases exist :)
