That's a pretty subjective question. My personal favorite is Need for Speed. Wing Commander 3 is great and so are a lot of others.
There are many acceptable answers to the second part of this first question. Usually, Plumber's Don't Wear Ties gets a good deal of the votes. Shadow War of Succession ranks pretty high as does BC Racers.

Usually Doom is considered a very good fps on the 3DO. But the key to making it really good is to enter the code to eliminate the borders.

Again, this is all my opinion - and I'm most likely completely wrong about Doom.

Number 1 for me is definately one of these:

Wing Commander 3, Luciennes Quest, NFS or Dr Hauzer.

:)

The worst?

VR stalker, BC Racer or Primal Rage.

Favs for me were Wing III
NFS
Killing Time
Worst Doom
Doom
Doom
and by the way did I mention Doom!

Fave FPS Space Hulk (not your usual FPS)
Killing Time & P'Oed rate a mention
Good version of Wolfenstein too!

Twisted is my favorite game, but you need to play w/friends to get the most out of it. If solo, Need for Speed for sure!

Worst is easily Plumbers don't wear ties  The original Mad Dog McCree is also bloody awful thanks to a piss poor conversion!

My fav fps on the 3DO is Wolfenstein (best console version by far!) Others worth mentioning ...

Space Hulk (a gorgeous game but w/a challenge designed by Satan himself!)

P'oed (too ambitious for it's own good, but has it pluses)

Cyberdillo (a fun game that does not deserve its rep ... trust me)

(There is also a good import called Belzerion that offers more of an adventure slant on fps)

Oh, and avoid Doom at all cost.

Great FPS for the 3DO? Killing Time all the way! That game is a monster, period! Good games though? Gex comes to mind, especially since it is left out quite often because it is a platformer, but an extraordinary one. D is excellent as well. Bad games?Doom sucks on the 3DO.

How far have you gotten in it Kid? I've nearly beaten it, so I'm in a much better position to comment on its pros & cons ...

Whatever happened to that joint review we were gonna do? (I think arguing about Primal Rage) Maybe we should try again w/Cyberdillo ...?
I have a review I wrote on this game from a couple years ago ... could be easily tweaked in 3DOKid fashion.

Don't make me start talking trash like Gunstar ... put up or shut up!

It could.

It's a real shame too, as the 3DO could have done a lot better with this title.
I read somewhere recently that Art Data had the go-ahead to do Doom 2 for the 3DO as well. I hope that was part of the original contract and not something that was decided after Art Data had ported Doom 1.

The music in 3DO Doom is widely considered to be excellent though.

Yea,it was pretty bad due to the frame rate mainly. As Bitrate said however, the music was excellent, and its sad to see it go to such waste on a terrible port.

does anyone have a scan of 3do magazine interview with artdata (the people who ported doom to the 3do) as i recall, with hindsight, it's pretty funny.

It was (for all the wrong reasons)
Bitrate should be holding those magazine copies very soon!

Those guys were way out of their league - article also talks about the making of chess wars

I can scan a copy if you like. The interview was full of bloated claims and much horn tooting, made all the more sad by the fact that they must have known even then that they were in over their head. So much for refreshing honesty ...

Best: some that come to mind are
Road Rash
Gex
Killing Time
Samurai Shodown

Worst: The only game I owned that I did not like was
Immercenary - god that game was bad

Immercenary is an odd. I promise you, and others will back me up, if you stick with it, it gets better. I actually quite enjoyed it, it's just that first hour of game play where it seems to make no sense and is too hard.

you mean it gets playable? maybe I should give it a second try, it seemed really bad though...

It sure does and it's a pretty good game. The beginning is frustrating for a while. Keep killing the weakest n00bs and taking in their power source. Run back to town when you're low on energy. Once you're strong enough to take on the first boss, yes the game becomes playable.

I got your back 3DOKid!

Immercenary does indeed get much better but it is quite cruel in those first few hours. :( Persevere and prove to yourself what a true gamer you are. :D
