Stranded on an Island with 3DO.

Post by bitrate » Wed Mar 24, 2010 5:24 am

Ok guys/gals. You are magically stranded on an island with a functioning 3DO player and monitor. You can pick 3 released 3DO titles and only 3 titles to last you until eternity.
The titles can come from any region, however, no multipacks/unreleased/etc.

So what's it going to be? Are you going to pick your favorite titles... or maybe titles that you are not as fond of but have more replay value?

I've got a long time to kill right?

- Power Kingdoms.
- Starfighter

No women right?

- Virtual Cameraman.

Nice third choice Matt

Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels
Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller (almost picked GEX but HELL has a little more re-play value to me)
Wolfenstein 3D (Would have gone for Escape from Monster Manor but this is eternity and Wolf has more levels)

I was trying to imagine, actually on a beach with solar powered TV and 3DO, and for some reason I couldn't pick an FPS.

Clarifying my choices -

NFS has unlimited replay value - I continually try to better times/scores regularly even now 15 years later.

Wing 3 - multiple story branches , playing around with different tactics and just flying and blowing things up - it was a narrow choice between this and Space Hulk. Unfortunately Space Hulk infuriates me and I'm sure all alone on an island it would cause game rage so violent the 3DO would be destroyed  - so Wing 3 it is.

I love shmups - period - Total eclipse is hard but not impossible (although I have never finished it) - once again multiple branches , simple controls and a need to try different tactics/ways - great replay value. I very nearly chose Gex for similar reasons - and even though I essentially chose two space shooters I'll stick with my choice.

I don't really like strategy games or RPG's, to me they are fiddly and too long and boring. But in a desert island disc situation they would possibly be something to while the time away. I have started playing Syndicate but never finished it so this would be one of them. :)

Fighters being one of my favourite genre's I would have to take at least one along. With my recent Way of the Warrior purchase and the apparent ridiculously hard AI to guarantee the character endings, I think this would keep me busy for some time, so this would be my second choice. :P

Finally, I've never seriously played "the glory" that is Wing Commander III, as much as it is designated a must have title for the 3do. So to see what all the fuss is about this would have to be my third disc. Any FMV title that addresses the player as a member of the cast may be psychologically good and shroud the effects of loneliness.

Tough to decide ...

Almost tempted to agree w/Silentman on Robinson's Req. simply for sheer contnet of game ...

However ... I'll go w/my old standby's ...

-Need For Speed (similar reasons as MattyG)

-SFII (this choice is a bit on the bubble, but ... it never gets old!)

-CPU Bach (the nice music would help keep my sanity)

BTW bitrate, since you started this thread why didn't you pick?

Star Control 2: Since I'd have nothing but time, I'd be able to explore all of those little planets. And would it matter that the time ran out??!!

Gex: I still love this game...I still need to get that Sci-fi world!

Guardian Wars/Powers Kingdom: When I go to play this one, I always get pulled away. My brother put 100 hours into this one grinding characters and he wasn't a 3do fan at the time!

I was having a tough time deciding on the third game.

I know for sure that I would have Need for Speed and Wing Commander 3, but the third game was a real toss up.

I think I've settled on Star Control 2 for the third game.

Two of those require a Japanese phrase book surely. Even with all the tie in the world, I still couldn't be bothered with that :)

Good point. It would make for an interesting interview once you had been rescued. Well, interesting for this forum, not so sure how the rest of the world would view it.

...so you spent 30 years on a desert island with a 3-d-0, and the only games you had were in Japanese?

It would be an interesting experiment if they were just the Warp games
