My Magazine pre-pre Alpha stages.

Post by 3DOKid » Sat Sep 18, 2010 9:07 pm

So this is an early version, of the last version I was remotely happy with.

The final magazine, ages from now, will also include.

- Spell checking (yes I know)
- Some re-writes.
- More consistancy. (Font's spacing, sizing etc)
- State of the Nation feature will be spread to 6 pages to improve readability, and needs some re-writing.
- D review
- A "big in Japan feature" - with 5 or 6 Japanese games, including Blue Forest.
- An over the fence feature. Which will be some Atari Jaguar games. Most likely my favourites: Iron Soldier, Doom and AvP. I'll play nice with these I promise.
- A short cheat section.
- A letters section.
- A news section.

So, clearly, it's no where near done.

What I do have is partially completed:

Previews:
- Monster Manor
- Star Blade
- NFS
Reviews:
- Stellar 7
- The Horde
- Mega Race

ACover that I'm only half happy with.

It's fun though mind!

Looking good so far ... real good actually. :)

Let me know if you'd ever like some reviews. I could try and write like a professional for a change, instead of my usual sporadic style.

I'm available for grammar and spell-checking, so long as I get some sort of tyrannical editing manager bit.

Page 7
(...)For every Wing Commander 3, there is a Phoenix 3(...)
:D

Page 8
(...)While it’s likely that Trip Hawkins
has a gun to the head of EA’s development teams(...)
you ask - P.8:
After all, what explains the existence of games like Plumbers
Don’t Wear Ties, or BC Racer on 3DO?
Made by pionieer companies, who had a clever idea (they think), and
so they started their own brand (plumbers). Too moch pionieers,
too much new brands. Consumers lost orientation.
A new FIFA was as "new" as a totally new game. They became or
huge mixed puree of software. After tasting this puree everyone
has the taste of it on the tongue: 3 D O.

And you were right in page 9:
(...)or any of the
hardware licensees, and 3DO themselves don’t have
the resources to fight Sega and Sony on their own.(...)
I think that's exactly the problem. 3DO knows the business, Sanyo, LG,
Panasonic - NOT. They were also pionieers. So they build this 3DO,
released software - and that's it. They never understood the console market, as it seems.

Will you keep the bold red headlines or are you gonna change it?
But wait, there is red in the 3DO logo, so...
On my acrobat reader blue and red squares fall nearly
into the first letters of each text. Just a little bit too much right.

Page 12:
You compare the actual game with the box art - I whish more would
have done that in that time. It was often disappointing.

The Horde review is fair (I like the game). I loved the FMVs
quote from one Hordling:
I was eating cow... and then KAWOOM!
But it was too outstanding, again a pionieer, a new brand - made it
unattractive for gamers (although it is on SATURN / PC)

It's as rough as a badgers badger at the moment. The layout will change, but I'm thinking of ditching the large-first-character. I don't think it works.

Glad you liked it :)

I think you're in a unique position to do an article on the "up and coming Star Trek:TNG game" -

A great opportunity to show off your concept artwork and this is the game that I bought the 3DO to play - still waiting damn you Spectrum Holobyte!

The Big first letter works out better if you actually put it into the paragraph and then wrap the words to it. Then you can make all the big letters in the magazine spell out a sentence like a certain Top Gear presenter did with a yearly car road test magazine.

oh, and nice work so far. Sorry it took so long to get a chance to look at it.

So, its going well. I have 10 3do reviews, 1 jag (and counting) review and a promise of a 32x review.

It contains nothing of the alpha release.

I ditched the idea of saturn/ps reviews as they break the magic of 1993/4

...but I do have mk3 on the ps1, I was thinking of using it as a preview for MK3 3do? That would be okay - right?

It's a fantasy magazine anyway...

So this magazine is going to have reviews/info for games on other systems?
I see, the 3DO isn't good enough for you, is it? IS IT!!!???!!!
j/k
But it is kind of a bummer that it isn't going to be devoted to 3DO. :(

For an article called "Over the fence" -- it was going to be a two or three page spread on games that should be on 3DO. Only 4 or 5 games, with a suggestion on how they could be improved on the 3DO. Iron Soldier was one, Rayman might be another since it was pencilled for the 3DO, Star Wars arcade because of Rebel Assault and Virtua Fighter because 3DO had no 3D fighter. Perhaps another. Raiden? No 2D SHMUP on 3DO. It is, I swear, 99% 3DO.

Broken link. :( Honestly you should have used mediafire to begin with. Apologies in advance since I really probably shouldn't be commenting here, seeing it's just an old bumped thread, but I'd like to download all the ones you've made!
