Hi all, you might remember me from being activeish on the forums around 2013. During 2013 I got a sanyo 3do, played it a bunch, and wound up selling it in early 2014 to put the money toward other old games/hardware (actually went and bought a Jaguar and atari lynx). Now that it's been a little while, I really find myself wanting to mess around with the 3DO again and focus a bit more on the neglected side of gaming history - I think it would be pretty dandy to have the Jag and the 3DO hooked up to my tv next to each other. Now that I've mostly maxed out the games I want to play and own on the jag, it'll be fun to supplement with the 3DO's library.

That being said, in the last 2 years, it seems that prices for the console have gotten quite high! I seem to remember it being possible to get an FZ-1 for $60 or less - whereas now it seems that $90-$120 is a more common figure! $120 is how much I paid for the Sanyo 3DO including shipping from Japan! Any secret tips for places to get an FZ-1 that are not ebay?

Hey, great to have you back, Dark! Sorry for the belated reply... Unfortunately, I have little advice for you on getting a reasonably priced FZ-1. You can always try Game Gavel, but right at the moment they don't have any 3DO units up for auction.

If you want a good deal, you have to wait. I've gotten some pretty great deals on eBay, but it usually takes a while for a good deal to roll around. Only a few months ago I got an untested 3DO (plus a pong console) for $35 shipped. It ended up working just fine. Controllers can be had for ~$10 as well if you wait and video cables are generic. And games can be burned until you find a good deal on them or decide you don't want them.

Also look around locally. I got my first 3DO for $30 from a local thrift store. And my best deals are found at yard sales. $0.25 PS1, $5 Wii, $5 PS2, etc etc. Unfortunately, to save money, it takes time. You can't [usually] have the best of both worlds, unless you get lucky.

Edit: Haha. just saw that you don't want eBay stuff. Depending on where you live, definitely try local. If not, there are other forums where people collect and trade systems. Atari Age is one of those places. Try posting to the marketplace that you are searching for a 3DO, but not for top dollar. There will probably be someone there who can at least point you in another direction.

Thanks guys, happy to say I have two different semi-broken FZ-1s coming my way. I expect I'll be able to cobble together a working model out of the combination of both of them. I also picked up a PC cdrom drive made by panasonic in the early 90s which I have a hunch might be able to serve as a replacement drive for one of them (see my forum topic in the tech support section). I didn't get a stupendous deal, but did get a better value than paying the typical ebay prices. Looking forward to posting some scores in the need for speed thread sometime soon.

3do and the 90s..how I miss thee.

Simpler times.

Took my 3DO out of storage the other day and been playing it like a mad man.. more than the newer consoles.. I have an Xbox One but use it mainly to watch blu-rays, youtube, and netflix.. my son has Wii U which is fun.. we play Mario Maker together.. but I always go back to retro.

Recently just won Supreme Warrior & Psychic Detective on ebay. I'm an FMV fiend.

Trying to master Snow Job.. what an awesome concept and atmosphere.

When I originally bought a 3DO as a kid.. the only games I remembered having were Syndicate, Return Fire, and Star Control II. Ahhh memories. Remember when Paulie Shore was playing Return Fire in the movie "In The Army Now"?.. No?.. just me? ..ok... back to my 3DO...

P.S. Hi everybody!

Hello Mate, welcome aboard.

I'm actually a fan of FMV games. One of the many branches of the gaming evolutionary tree that died almost as quickly as it arrived!

Cheers,

3DOKid.

PS: I'm off to hunt down a copy of "your in the Army now"

Heya.

I love my 3DO! I got a FZ-1 in a flea market with three games for $10 long ago in my teens. I am slowly collecting new things for it. I do use mine as a multi media player.

You can hit me up on FB: Daemon lord gomazoa

Hello,

New member here! I'm a PAL collector of the 3DO console and have 56 PAL games in my collection, always on the lookout for games I don't have.

Hello, everyone! New member here.

I've always been a fan of retro and obscure video games, but it wasn't until fairly recently that I became interested in the 3DO. I recently bought a slightly beat-up, but working Panasonic FZ-10, a controller, and a few games, and I must say, I am really enjoying it! I currently own Gex, Return Fire, and Shockwave, and I have another game on the way. I can't wait to dive deeper into the library, and I hope to have a long and fun stay here!

See you around!

Welcome to the boards! May I ask how you managed to find this place? It still seems to be invisible to search engines.

Funnily enough, my first 3DO also came with Gex and Return Fire. Can't say I've played much of either of them, though, since I already had the Saturn version of Gex (very unique and meaty platformer), and Return Fire, while it seems to be a very good game, just doesn't do it for me for some reason. I've spent a lot more time with the other two games that came with my 3DO, Slayer and Icebreaker.

Hope you enjoy your stay here!

That's strange. It was a Yahoo search that led me here. I think I was searching for 3DO homebrews, and I stumbled across this forum by blind chance. There weren't many other online resources for the system, so I bookmarked the forum and registered.

I live in Japan, but Yahoo, this site can not search. It's strange.

Hell Yes, I HAVE RETURNED! After the floods and water womping out here in Sunny (Ha-Ha) California, I have decided to return to the 3DO again. Many of you know who I am, and hopefully we can all chat again here, although the board looks a little still at the moment. I decided to try my hand at my review chops again, so I'll be hitting the reviews section soon again. What's Up 3DOKid and Jagchris? Been a hot minute. Everyone else, Hola!

Hey, I'm BurritoBeans

I'm some kid who likes to collect games and their related hardware, be it a console or a computer, alongside a good few other things like R/C vehicles, music, instruments, and farm stuff. I think I signed up for an account here like early March of 2016 and thanks to remembering that this place existed via a post on a forum alongside an email to 3DOKid I got the account activated just the other day - I'm fairly glad to be on here. I think I heard of the place from goldenband or Austin on another forum - if nobody had mentioned it I'd probably have never found the place.

I've been playing 3DO since I was just a couple years old, maybe like 2003 or 2004? The good 'ol FZ-1 was my first console and I still play the same system with the same controllers and discs to this day. Something about the system just appeals to me - I don't exactly know why but I love the thing, and it's probably my favorite system out of my collection of consoles and PCs that I've acquired over the years - while it hasn't got that much attention in my collection compared to say my NEC/Sharp computers or my Atari systems money-wise, the 3DO is still probably one of my most-played systems I own and I'd like to be able to keep one with me for as long as I can.

So yeah that's a tiny bit of me - I hope to see some new people and hopefully be able to learn some stuff and maybe contribute a bit of info to the community if the opportunity arises.

Thanks for reading,
BurritoBeans

Hi BurritoBeans, welcome here !
It's not often that you encounter kids collecting old video games stuff ! (well except for me but i don't think a 21 years old man counts  )
This website was blacklisted by Google so that's why you can't find it, you're not alone.
It sucks but what you can do, you're really lucky to have registered before the mods disappeared.

You aren't sure why you like the 3DO ? Mmm... I wonder why :)

Hi all, I just managed to subscribe to this forum, so I think it's time to introduce myself.

I am a greek guy, currently residing in UK. In my hobby I used to collect retro computers and console, write code for few of them, usually demoscene stuff, although I am more interested for homebrew gamedev recently. My interest for 3DO was accidental at first, I was collecting consoles and 3DO seemed interesting too, but later I was working on a demo with other people who introduced me to the current SDK with all the encryption hassle and so on, so I had a smoother introduction to programming for the 3DO. Now I want to get more into it and learn more about how to optimize for the machine, share some info with the community and hopefully make a game for it.

Our 3DO demo is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj2LrdX-sMU and a little Ludum Dare I game made hastly is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DSuRJ-uieY.

Welcome here, Optimus !
It's quite impressive what you did, seems like you are interested in the retro homebrew scene in general as weel, including the CPC !
Shame that CPCtelera doesn't support PLUS features...
You are much experienced than anyone else here so i can't wait to see your future stuff on 3DO !

Hi, thanks for the add. Excited to be part of the dedicated 3DO forums. I recently became interested in the 3DO technology after reading about the 3DO Blaster. The more I looked into 3DO, the more obscure and alluring I found it.

I managed to pick up an FZ-1 for a good price (£40) and promptly started exploring the electronics of the system. As there are no service manuals readily available, I had to use trial and elimination. I have managed to get 240p from the console and I am currently looking into RGB solutions. I also want to look into effective laser head replacements for the CD drive.

I seem to spend more time modding and fixing electronics than playing games these days but I'm looking forward to playing old classics on the 3DO like Flashback, Star Control II, Gex.

The sad truth is that this place is almost dead. But there are a few people who walk in and post something here and then. Besides that, there's a lot of great info to dig in theses forums, years of chatting about our favorite system.

Welcome, Taijigamer.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. Yeah I noticed the traffic on this site is unfortunately low. I'm also on AtariAge and Assembler focusing mainly on 3DO at the moment. Trying to work on feasible hardware solutions for this console both enhancing and restorative. Hopefully I will find some good info and chat on here. The only area where I can't find solutions is IDE/USB hdd as I think Mnemo on 3DOplanet.ru is the only person to have created this and his mods are around $240!

The main thing to get this site active again is to get it relisted on Google, since right now it's blacklisted. I know the issue is on Devin's radar.

Oh, and: welcome aboard, Taijigamer! :)

Thanks goldenband. It's a real shame that this place got blacklisted by Google, I only found it by accident because someone has linked a thread here on another forum. Is it not just a case of changing the site's server or domain ip or something. Hopefully Devin can work something out. This site needs to become the 3DO go to site once again. 3DOplanet.ru is the only other dedicated 3do site that I know of, but it's in Russian.

One of the MODs deactivated entry of a Google Bot which resulted in the blacklist!

Have to plead to Google to get relisted! :o
