Way of the Warrior

I'll give it's due, it has the finest back story of any fighting game: Evil Dead meets the Shaolin monks, but damn, it's hard. I lost 10 straight matches, and I'm struggling to maintain calm.

So, I'm sat here with 3DO Game secrets Book 2 and Gamefaqs and I'm still getting my behind served to me on a plate.

Anyone any good at this? Any hot tips for victory?

The sound track is aces.

I tried:

- Random button mashing.
- Crouching and ankle bashing
- Special Moves
- Jump and kick

None of which worked

WOTW is "jus turrible" to quote Charles Barkley.

Seriously, I like ROTR better.

I'll take you to task over your points of praise too. The story is possibly the worst I've heard in a brawler (no small feat given competition from the Jag ... I kid my fellow Atari fans  ) The White Zombie tunes have no appeal for me either, and lack variety.

Best tip to win is set the difficulty as low as possible and lob projectiles non stop. It worked for me.

It can't possibly out-do Shadow: War of Succession in the cheese department though.

The only way to play that game is under the influence of various unnamed substances in 2 player mode with friends which is how I suspect naughty dog approached its development

Are you playing on easy :?

Even with this I found it difficult to get to the end.

I don't have the luxury of an arcade stick and got through to the end (easy) after many, many "Continues" and developing pressure sores on my thumbs.

I was finding that some characters were more susceptible to attacks from your character than others. For example playing as Shakey Jake, I found it easy to beat Ninja and Konotori, but more difficult to beat Malcolm Fox.

I was trying to work out some 2 or 3 hit juggle combos with Shakey Jake, but have got distracted trying to complete Icebreaker on it's default setting instead.

It's a game you need to put in the hours, days, weeks, months and years to get to the end of. From what I understand you don't get the proper ending unless you finish the game on the hardest setting. From what I've seen of that you're going to have to be a gun and completely own the opponents as it is practically at a level where the opposition can deliver 1 to 2 hit kills.

Kid, I'm guessing you play as Major Gaines.

Lol I love the cheesiness of our Australian Jake ! Well I guess it was at the height of “Dundee” fever and at least we actually got a mention...

Konotori was played by Jason Rubin (not a Japanese name you will note) but he was (is) one of the head honchos at Naught Dog. His voice sounds like he is constipated in the game. He doesn't look very japanese either.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Rubin

Europeans on the other hand don't even get a mention. We didn't make it to the Way of the Warrior quarter finals. That's probably why I can't get anywhere in the game. It's a fix - I'm being racialised. ;)

The best way to win a match in this game is to pray to Thor, Anubis, Poseidon, Quetzalcoatl and Baron Samedi in that order, then chew on your controller. Single player mode was too difficult to be fun, but it was jammed with fun cheat codes and easter eggs.

The best way to win was by not playing this game at all.

Man, I love automatic wins! They are the best.

Come on guys! It's not so hard to win in WOTW. There are couple of easy ways to beat the game. For example you can ace the Ninja's forward leaping kick and pull it off again and again. It deals terrific damage if comes to the target. But my favourite way is to play Shaky Jake. His specials are kinda useful. Especially his backspin attack. Still it is truly hard to win on high difficulty levels))

We have in a midst a Way of the Warrior Ninja. :D

Okay - I'll try again tomorrow!

For fans of the genre, it's a classic. Listening to the "La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1" album from start to finish is a lot different to hearing the tracks in WOTW. Still, not for the masses. Rob Zombie is a whore when it comes to licensing his music for soundtracks. Paraphrasing... "If they're gonna pay decent money to put our music in their shitty film (or in this case, game) - fine."

Since the other Way of the Warrior Thread has spanned 4 pages and counting, I thought I'd bump this thread from about a year ago, just for the heck of it.

What's all the fuss about? Two threads fir W.O.T.W and you ladies and gents don't even like the game, seriously?

The character Dragon. Skill level "equal fighting". Opponent naturally Cpu AI. total of 74 fights and a snack break and Kull was defected! Actually pretty fun all my kids were happy as well, we all get the picture.

Not that anyone really cares, but I did manage to record the ending, as I was do into it! Didn't think to pull out the phone until my hands were free. Beavers... wink wink that games hard. The key to winning are: perseverance , a good handle of your characters basic moves and attentiveness. To beat Kull or anyone else you gotta learn their points of attack. Take advantage when their taunting and don't to redundant with your attacks and you'll be good. Worked for me! 8)

Actually, quite a few seem to like WOTW.

Along w/Immercenary, it is probably one of the most polarizing games in the entire 3DO library. I've hardly seen anyone say that its an okay game ... people tend to either love it or hate it. I'm not sure exactly why that is, but I bet the difficulty is one of the big reasons. Like Immercenary, WOTW challenge seems unbalanced imho.

Btw, congrats one beating the game. :)

Hey now, I like Way of the Warrior! Classic. I started the other thread because of it! Great stuff. The big thing I think that really killed the game for people is it isn't the most friendly fighter as far as the control pad is concerned. Get the Capcom pad and it controls much better!

Six button controller? Nawh I seen it, never needed it then don't think I need one now. Just loosen the screws a bit on the diagonal side like 3 turns. Won't be perfect but will be better.

I told you, Way of the Warrior is a divisive game. :P

This may help you w/cutting & pasting ...

Come on Trev... Btw cut n paste not at all rocket science. Now the quote button, I have 2 admit, overlooked it. Divisive good use of terms.

But as far as what you told me, that a different story. I've read your reviews some of your comments here and there. Quite honestly you've gotta be one of those respondents I was referring. You are truly comical. Do they pay u to write this stuff or what?

Should I start billing? I'm tempted, but I don't think the market is big enough to support freelance 3DO reviewers. :P

Yes they are. And there is some weird region protection I have yet to understand.

If u could bill that would be great right? Then u would have more income for collecting or what have u. Might be a good thing for u to investigate amongst others.

Right. You nit pick one more thing like this, and I swear, I'm banning you. You talk about games and consoles. Not the forum or members. Okay? ;) I don't mind debate, being a cock is unacceptable. That's my job. ;)
