HELP! Looking for an old article...

Post by parallaxscroll » Mon Nov 29, 2010 5:05 am

I'm looking for an old article (actually a rant) called "Swimming With Dolphins" from the old website: vortexonline.com.

It's mainly about the Nintendo Dolphin (GameCube) but it talks alot about the 3DO M2 and MX.

I found a link to the article from the internet archive but I cannot pull it up because it's dead. Can someone do better than I am able to on this?

see here: http://web.archive.org/web/200105280407 ... com/rants/
dead link: http://web.archive.org/web/201011290403 ... 32300.html

I remember it being pretty interesting, and I remember someone on NeoGAF being able to pull it up somehow, but I have no idea how he did it, but I know it CAN be done.

Thanks for any help ^__^

okay I dug up a gaf post and found part of that article:
"This time Matsushita had a very viable solution for Nintendo, the MX console. What was the MX? Well, details are sketchy, but it was supposed to be the successor of the M2. Sporting two Power PC CPUs that each alone had several times the power of the M2, and pushing a lot more polygons, this system was designed for speed. Nintendo actually entered into negotiations with Matsushita about using the technology. However, Nintendo was still a fan of MIPS CPUs and wanted to use them. The architectures where not compatible, and the MX went down just like its younger brother. Or did it? Perhaps, part of it lives in the Dolphin. Rumors persist that some of the foundations of the Dolphin are based of early MX designs. Only Nintendo knows for sure."

its always entertaining to hear just how many consoles the m2 or its sucessor chipsets ALMOST made it into

Sega talks to Matsushita about M2, Nintendo talks to them about MX, maybe there is some tech in the xbox / 360...its just insane how weird of a life a product that was supposed to be a stand alone console took
