Where is the Homebrew at?

Post by T2KFreeker » Fri Jan 28, 2011 4:15 am

Yeah, so I see that Charles Doty released the tools for development including an incryption code for the discs as well. Just wondering what's going on with any of this stuff? Been gone for a bit and was hoping to see something in the development on my return. I know that the Beta for Killing Time was released, which is cool as it is easily one of my 3DO faves. What's the differences between it and the released version?

To my knowledge not much has happened yet, but it is still early.

Here is one of the threads detailing some of the differences between the Alpha / Beta / Retail builds.

http://cdinteractive.co.uk/3do/forum/vi ... php?t=2051

There are some additional differences I've noticed in the alpha that are not detailed in that thread yet.

For instance, there is a small debug built in:

Well, the cool thing is that this is actually happening! I was really excited when I read about this a bit back, but with things the way they were, I had to focus on other things. I am happy to see that there is something going on though. I wonder if Rastersoft will release an actual game for the system now, although the encryption Key is seriously a must have at this point. Would be really cool to see another run of Ice Breaker II also!

Yeah, when I was running my 3DO site, Andy was a member there and was talking another run since Older Games went out, but it never happened. I wonder if I still have his contact information.

Hello Mate,

Glad you are back. Don't invite him here. He hates me. Somthing about a review.

I've talked to him before. I've already done a better encryption job than the OlderGames version. God, Mnemonic liked to make a mess of things!

With Icebreaker 2, is the problem still a rights issue? I thought that was the reason for there not being another run of it the first time.

If not and Mr. Looney is OK with another run, what are the overheads required for something like this? I would gladly donate to the cause.

Ice Breaker 2 deserves another print run. It really is a good game, like its predecesor. Theres nothing really like it that I can think of off the top of my head, and the unique nature works strongly in its favor. Hopefully if it does get back in circulation, fans will show support by purchasing it.

If it gets a re-release, for the love of everything sacred... whoever does it has to make sure its not burned CDRs again.

Maybe because I wasn't paying attention, but how do you do the encryption?

I'm serious about donating money btw in case the possibility of another run is real, btw. :!:

Basically, I'm really curious as to what Mr. Looney has to say about it.

Still no word from Looney but I've been having e-mail issues as of late.

About not doing burned CD-Rs I doubt that will happen. It costs a lot to have discs pressed and small batch would probably be more than what could ever be sold.

I could care less if it is on a burned CD, as long as it's of good quality. I missed the first run, but it's because we didn't get along with the guys at Oldergames. Yeah, we shall see. Hopefully this comes out.

Just got a first closer look at the 3DO Bouncing Ball demo:

That's amazing!
And you know why?

Well, it may not look very spectacular at first sight, but there's a lot
you can read in it:

- 16 bit colours
- polygons
- objects are pressure-forged when touching the ground
- texturemapping
- shading
- lighting
- different physics for each object
- multiple shadows (not only black spots, but also
differently lighted texture-surfaces)
- multi channel sounds

Would be interesting how high the CPU usage is...?

Impressed,
Jones

Minus the packaging, what are the theoretical costs of having a run of real CDs made (obviously prices will vary based on quantity, but let's use a baseline of, say, 100 here)?

It's actually all sprite driven. But it is a very good demo of what the 3DO is capable of doing with 2D assets. The true strength of the 3DO, much like the Saturn, is in 2D. It just got caught up in 3D being the next big thing.

100? Minimums I have come across are 1000 to 2000 CDs. Unless you have a friend in the business I can't imagine having to have less than 500 made.

Then what's a guestimated cost of making a run of 500 or 1000?

I thought some Jaguar projects had super-tiny runs (about 100 discs), but now that I checked into it, it turns out those were on CD-R discs.

I say we get a petition going here and get the members to sign it saying they would buy another run of Ice Breaker II. If Loony sees said petition and enough sigs are on it, he might be more prone to respond. Could send him the link to the petition. Kid, could also send a mass e-mail to said members here to see if they would be interested in signing said petition? I'd say do a poll, but it is too impersonal and anyone could vote and there would be no way to know who said what . . .

We could also spread the word to other messageboards to see if others are interested.

Hmm, I know there are still some 3DO fans over at JSII that had talked about interest back when I was running 3DOManiac. It would be worth a shot.

Likewise, I can see if there's interest over at AtariAge and possibly NintendoAge (should be some other-system collectors there).

Hmm, maybe he has gotten disillusioned about the project? I might try sending him a message through Looney Games. Not sure if that will help though . . .

True. I'll give him a week and then send him a message through the business if I don't hear anything by then.
