The few, the proud, the mission discs.
Maps O' Death by a country mile.
Lots of reasons, but a couple of the big ones are that it is 2 player and also not nearly as frustrating as Operation Jumpgate.
I like the Shockwave series, don't get me wrong, but they don't hold a candle to the sheer fun that is/are the Return Fire games.

Replying to you both here, couldnt agree with you more. I got board going through the single player mode, but had to do that in order to unlock the tiers for 2 player mode.
Love the music, love the 2 player mode against a worth opponent. I do have it and the expension for 3DO, but its just easier to play it on the Playstion.

The staff at EGM didn't agree ... which is actually kinda strange for a mainstream mag, but refreshing nonetheless. Tough to remember exactly why they said 3DO version was better than Playstation but I think it was control.
Why do you say the Psx version is best?

Because it loads faster, the graphics are the same if not a touch better, the music is the same, but most importantly, ITS ALL ON ONE DISC!!!!
I dont have an issue with the controls on either version, i reckon both seem fine to me.
Id be interested to see why they thought the 3DO version was better, cantve been just the controls surely!!

Finally found the old mag I was looking for. It wasn't control in the strictest since, but they did say that w/the 3DO version the 'gameplay was tighter' ... whatever that means.
It says something to me that they'd go out of their way to pick the 3DO version above the Psx ... especially since 3DO was dead when the article was written. However I suppose it continues a theme of Psx ports not being as good as the 3DO originals.

Is that for every level? Sounds like they tweaked the difficulty to match up w/Maps O' Death. Should have given options or kept the challenge true to the original(s) Oh well, score one for 3DO.insane4games wrote:I can tell you EXACTLY why the 3DO version is better. The Playstation version only gives you 3 Jeeps and there is now way you can survive this game with only 3 jeeps! It's just stupid.

I love return fire but find the frame rate drops when you drive the jeep fast and makes control really difficult. The mission disc was good though with some really tough levels
