Alternate cover for Super Street Fighter II Turbo?

Post by Austin » Wed Nov 23, 2011 12:49 am

While browsing evilbay for 3DO goods, I came across this auction that has an alternate box cover for Super Street Fighter II Turbo. It uses the Japanese cover art. Did Panasonic release various covers here in the US, or did Japan get a special longbox release? I was under the impression all of their games were packaged in standard CD jewel cases, much like the Saturn and PlayStation were during the '90s.

That is the Canadian long-box version. Rise of the Robots and Guardian War also had Canadian long-box versions that differed from US equivalents.

Ahh, interesting. I was unaware of that. I haven't seen the alternate covers for the others, either. I'm curious to know what they look like.

You can see them in my collection thread. Scroll down a little to where all of the long-boxed games are shown.

I bought the Canadian version solely for the superior artwork. Even though I don't care for the multiple languages on the packaging, ala Atari Jaguar, its worth it when the cover looks so much better. Who want's to only stare at Akumas ugly mug?

BitRate, I found it, thanks for the heads up. The Guardian War box isn't much different, but the Rise box certainly looks better (in my opinion, anyway). :)

What's wierd, is that when I originally bought my 3DO at Best Buy, they had both versions of Street Fighter 2 there. Most of them were the US version, with 1 being the Canadian, which I bought ofcoarse. I didn't know it at the time, I thought it was just a variant. They must've transfered it from a Best Buy in Canada is all I can guess :?:

You know, I missed this the first time around. I must have that awesome looking box. I am really liking that box. I always thought the Japanese artwork looked really cool anyway! Sure it's really a pain in the ass to find because the box might be rare.
This is a stick up! Put all of your 3DO games in the bag and nobody gets hurt!
