Hello all!
I just got myself a Goldstar unit a few weeks ago (FREE!) with 3 games. Unfortunaely they aren't so exciting (Battle Chess, Cowboy Casino, and Olympic Summer games) so I'm hitting Ebay. I got a nice buy (at least I think it is...), All three Shockwave games for $31 (shipped) Plus I purchased Esc From Monst Manor, Super Wing Commndr, Road Rash and Family Feud for about the same $$ from a member at another game forum I belong to. I'm hoping to get them all by this weekend. Not a bad starter library eh?
Anyways, real glad to have found this site. I was getting pretty frustrated since there's not a helluva lot of info or resources on the 3DO. The few sites out there are long since forgotten about...the original site owners stopped updating years ago and most links to 3DO sites don't work!

I'm sure I'll be asking lots of ?'s if you guys dont mind. I hardly ever heard of the 3DO, and within a 2 week span I've gone from nothing to a working sytem with 10 games!

Any suggestions for good (CHEAP preferably) games for this system would be greatly appreceated. I'm partial to RPGs and shooters (I don't have but gotta get Sewer Shark...I have a Sega Genesis/CD and that's probablly the best of the 50+ games I have. when I saw it was available for the 3DO I knew it would HAVE to be in my collection!)

Hey man welcome to the forum.

I'm a huge fan of RPG's but unfortunately the 3DO doesn't have too many.

For regular console style RPG's there's Guardian War and Lucienne's Quest. Guardian War is basically a dungeon crawler with very little plot. I only played it for about a half hour before getting bored of it. I'm not sure if I'll ever regain interest.

Lucienne's Quest is a very generic, simple, and cliched RPG. It's still fun though and I do recommend it. The graphics haven't aged well but the character portraits sure are nice. The battle system is pretty original also.

There are 2 first person dungeon crawling RPG's. Slayer and Death Keep. Both of 'em are Dungeons and Dragons games. Death Keep is unplayable really. You always die. I can only seem to kill 2 enemies before dying. I have no clue why. Slayer however is playable, looks gorgeous, and has a fantastic soundtrack.

There are some RPG's that only came out in Japan. I have no clue about any of 'em.

One game that is a must have is Star Control 2. This game justifies the purchase of a 3DO...

Hello Mate.

Welcome aboard. The 3DO is a fine machine and there is a lot of people on here who know a lot about the system. I am not one of those people, I tend to just make stuff up, but it's my forum and what are you going to do about it?

My blog might steer you on the straight and narrow of the 3Do path to enlightenment.

Shooters? Hmm.

Get Wing Commander III. Now. Go on. Get it.
Get Total Eclipse.
Get Bladeforce.
Get Pyramid Intruder.
Get Starblade.
Get Novastorm.

RPGs? UnholyTancred is bang on the money. Slim pickings I am affraid. Although I kind of enjoyed Guardian War, Luciennes Quest is about the best.

Japanese RPGs need the ability to speak Japanese. Sadly.

3DO Kid.

I actually enjoyed Guardian war and i love deathkeep. They are difficult games but they are great rpgs. Deathkeep is a bit hard in the beggining due to ice!! but is easier later. Anyway you have to grab everything 3DO. :)

Good point - well raised. Yes you do. It's the law.

Beleive it or not, you can get alot of the common games on Ebay for pretty cheap. Avoid it for the rare titles (ex. Lucienes Quest) but many great games like Fifa and Gex go for mere pennies. Check the buy/sell/trade foum too, cause lots of members have duplicates of some really good games.

Thanks guys!
I got some of my games. Monster Manor and Road Rash are cool. Super Wing Commander stinks though. Well...maybe if I read the instructions and go into it knowing what I'm doing it'll be more enjoyable.
And I'm definetly keeping my eye(s) on Ebay and the forum here for more games.

Actually...at this point anything simple. After getting frustrated at SWC's complexity, I realized I just want something fun and easy to play. If I have to read the instructions for more than 10 seconds, I give up. :?

I fell in love with the game after figuring out how the hell to play it. It's like Starlancer for the Dreamcast just a lot older.
