What was the most exciting news story you ever read about 3DO?

I'm still, albeit slowly, working on the magazine, and just need to find some news stories for the, well, news section :)

The M2.

And then the worst news.. The cancellation of the M2 (as well as the cancellation of the 3DO platform as a whole).

Definitely M2.

I thought for sure that with the M2 there would come an updated version of Need For Speed. Oh well...

To be perfectly honest, M2 wasnt cancelled, it did survive but in other forms. It was only that the console version was unreleased.

The anouncement of Star Control 2, updated with voiceovers for the 3DO and the Star Trek game that never came out. Best news ever for both, and worst when they never released Star Trek.

Yes, we know. The M2 video game console is what we are talking about.

I really wish Star Trek had made it out too.

Best news for me was when Goldstars Australian distributor announced a localised version - pity it turned out to be 240v NTSC and not 240v PAL....

Were Aussie tv's not very compatible with 60hz at the time? Otherwise id see the 240v 60hz machine preferable to 50hz..

I dont remember when 60hz compatibility became standard here in europe.. i believe the late 90's (as i remember using a composite converter for my us snes in the early 90's) most could handle 60hz, by 2000 and onward almost all have.

Not in Edge Magazine. 8/10 and they complained that you couldn't go off-road and explore, and didn't feel like a race.

Off-road and exploring in a Ferrari Testarossa isn't a race to be honest. I can't imagine any of the cars in NFS are off-roading masters. And clearly, they never experienced trying to get away from the Cops, going up hill and being in the wrong gear, which was always a butt-clenching moment to be honest. NFS 3DO was one of the most intense cop-chase/racing games ever made.

NFS never re-captured that sense of panic. The cops are always psycho's now, driving missiles with blue lights. Some of the more recent NFS's did a neat job of cop chases, but now Criterion are slowly turning NFS into Burnout which is brainless popularist gash open world rot, made for the knuckle-dragging masses with no hand-eye co-ordination.

That said, I liked NFS the Run. It was quite cinematic, but I was in a minority of one in that.

That rant made, I've bought every NFS ever since the 3DO version, hoping, always hoping.

I didn't read much 3DO news until M2.

I did get excited about all the games that were slated to come out during that time period where 3DO, PS, SS all existed at once. I really thought 3DO was going to get Rayman and some of the other great titles of the time. I was pretty hyped to see how the 3DO would compare....

That was a pretty exciting time overall when 3DO, PS, SS, Jaguar, and N64 were all playing around in the market.

I liked The Run too.. it wasnt perfect, but its better than most since Underground 1 and 2. And it was the return to A to B racing in NFS.

You have won the bid for an FZ-10 with 16 games at 111.

I was born well after the hype died down.
