Shill bidding on evilbay....

Post by Dreygor » Thu Aug 09, 2012 6:59 pm

...If you figured out someone was bidding on their own stuff on ebay (shill bidding as they call it). Would you turn them in to evilbay?

Here is the situation. I bid $5 on a boxed total eclipse 3DO game. The auction ended at 1am while I was sleeping. No biggy I loose all kinds of auctions. But I always check the winner. The auction sold for $5.50. After checking the person who won the auction he ONLY buys from the this seller %100 of the time (no one does that) and then I checked further and most of those items come up for auction again from the same seller.

Here is a link to the profile of suspicious bidder...

I contacted the seller and he claims he and his brother had doubles of everything and he just didn't feel like changing the picture.

Would you be suspicious?

I'd rat him out. As they might say in 1980s New York based cop thriller.

I would though. He stealing from you.

Yeah, pass it on to eBay. That kind of activity isn't cool.

You mess with one 3DO collector, you mess with us all.

Break him down to his very foundation for his transgressions against the masses.

Definitely report it. That's just not how it works. If he wants a fixed price, fix it, otherwise, it is not just against EBay, I think it is illegal.

feeBay generally ignores me when I catch a shill bidder (because they make more money that way) but when you have an account that bids on only one seller's auction I think you've got him dead to rights.
