(My attempt at) A Definitive 3DO Game List

Most of the consoles I collect for are pretty straightforward: Find a release list, buy games, check them off the list.

However, the 3DO isn't proving to be quite so simple, as I'm sure you all know. That being said, I'm compiling various lists and bits of info in an attempt to make the most complete list possible.

This is still a work-in-progress, but I'm at a point where I thought I should get some help. It's still a bit messy, but I should have most of the retail releases. I still need to add demos, magazine coverdiscs, and prototypes, and possibly unreleased games...

I still have a lot of work to do, but I'm going to post what i have so far, my main concern at this stage is making sure there are no errors, that I haven't missed any games, and that the localized/translated names are correct.

Any and all suggestions are welcome, here's a link to the a Wordpress page where I uploaded it:

Try to use Gamefaqs and 3DO Japan Software List. There are a lot of info about releases.

Of course, you have to be slightly careful with GameFAQs... They give a release year for Air Warrior on the 3DO even though there seems to be a consensus here that the game was never released.

Thanks Silentman, that Japanese 3DO list is gonna be a HUGE help! Like Martin said, though, Gamefaqs is a little iffy, I spent about 30 minutes looking up Air Warrior after I saw it on there, lol.

One thing I found is that Sangokushi and Romance of the 3 Kingdoms are the same game, so I've fixed that. I'm still going thru and correcting other little things.

Don't forget to upload corrected list. I'll try to check it out.

Sure thing, I'm working on getting demos and magazine coverdiscs in tonite.

Is there a better way to upload it when I'm done? Frankly, my Wordpress page is terrible, and I don't want you guys to make fun of my unhealthy addiction to old Tyco RC cars

Thanks for this, it's very helpful! The only mistake I noticed was that Perfect World has its own entry -- isn't that just an alternate/Japanese title for Immercenary?

Yes it is.

good to know, I made a few changes to the excel sheet, I'll go ahead and make that change and reupload in a few minutes.

I ended up getting a seasonal job, so I'm pretty swamped and haven't had time to update the list in a while. I still need to do some work on the regions, serial numbers, etc., but it's coming along.

I also found a french site containing a list with a few titles I hadn't seen before, I'm slowly working through itand making changes accordingly.

OK, updated the file. It's still not complete, but I've added the US demos and all the known (to me) magazine coverdiscs.

I also updated the description on the page to reflect the changes made to the list.

Interesting... GameFAQs actually lists them as two separate games! Not often that you see them make a goof of that magnitude.

Thanks for the update, nixzero! I think I found another dupe: Real Pinball (FZ-SM0801) = Fire Ball (FZ-SJ0801), right?

Also, any particular reason that Igo Time Trial: Thumego 1 doesn't have an entry in the US Title/English Translation column? (What do "najigo" and "thumego" translate as, anyway?)

It's "tsumego."

Ah, thanks. That would explain why all the web hits on "thumego" are for the 3DO game. I wonder how the mistransliteration happened?

Sorry I've been away from the site so long.

Good catch on Real Pinball/ Fire Ball, goldenband!

As for the "thumego" confusion, there tends to be a lot of ambiguity with phonetic translation. I ran into a lot of those while putting the list together. I was actually hoping someone could clear up some confusion I have on the "Igo Time Trial" games. Somewhere a while back, I saw "Igo Time Trial: Najigo I" referred to as "Go Time Trial 1", and "Igo Time Trial: Shikatsu Daihyakka" referred to as "Go Time Trial 2". I ended up using these English titles, but I doubt the translation is 100% correct.

I'm not sure if the "Tsumego" game is actually one of the other titles that somehow got mistranslated, or if it is a 3rd and separate game. GameFaqs only has listings for "Igo Time Trial: Shikatsu Daihyakka" and "Igo Time Trial: Thumego", but they both have the same jewel case image (with #FZ-SJ2251). Weirder still, Batracien's site lists Najigo and Shikatsu Daihyakka as FZ-SJ2251 and FZ-SJ2251 respectively, but when you click the link for Najigo, the page title is actually Thumego, leading me to believe that Najigo and Thumego are probably the same game game.

Hello :D

As for the game of the "IGO", in 3DO of the Japanese version, three are put on the market in total.

「囲碁タイムトライアル・詰碁Ⅰ」
IGO TAIMUTORAIARU TSUMEGO

「囲碁タイムトライアル 死活大百科」
IGO TAIMUTORAIARU Shikatsu Daihyakka

「石田芳夫九段の囲碁制覇」
ISHIDAYOSHIO KUDAN NO IGO SEIHA

In addition, although the software "ゲームの達人 GAME NO TATSUJIN" is put on the market, about this, it is compound software containing four games, "mah-jongg", the "Igo", "othello", and "shogi."

I feel sorry in poor English.
Could I give you a help?
:?

This is a belated answer, but: a big help, thanks! We're also talking about a list over here too, and your suggestions would be very welcome. :D

Ok, I've finally updated my 3DO game list, thanks to goldenband, Austin, FUJISAN and 3DO Si for their help and suggestions!

http://nixzero.wordpress.com/236-2/

here are some of the more notable updates:
  • -Added several demos, including those published as part of the Demo Disc Program.
-Filled all most blanks in "Genre", "Developer/Publisher", and "Year" columns.
-Unknown data has been marked "UNKNOWN", any info on these entries would be greatly appreciated.
-Added columns for Lightgun and Mouse support
-Added separate entries for the mail-in only discs Killing Time 1.1 and ESPN Golf: Lower Your Score with Tom Kite - Mental Messages.
-Updated entries for Warp's Flopon/Furopon series to avoid confusion.
-REMOVALS: Dragon Knight III/Knights of Xentar; duplicate entries for Kamachi's Museum
-MERGED: Kurokishi no Kamen & Ghost Hunter; FireBall!! & Real Pinball; Igo Time Trial 2 & Book of Life and Death; Sangokushi IV & Romance of the 3 Kingdoms; Tozasareta Yakata & Killing Time.

You're very welcome, and thanks for the update and all your efforts! I can offer some genre suggestions:

Casper - Adventure/Isometric
Cyberia - Adventure/Shooter
Insect War - FPS
Wacky Races - Racing/Gambling Sim (IIRC there's no actual player-controlled racing in this one)
Wacky Races 2 - Racing (there is racing, albeit at a horrific frame rate)

As I mentioned in the other thread, my next suggestion would be to add a column for non-transliterated names for Japanese and Korean games. Speaking of transliteration, I think it's Taiketsu Rumiizu! (not Rumi-Zu).

Also, it'd be helpful to have a column that offered some way of sorting the demo, edutainment, compilation, plain video, and other similar titles separately, so that one could easily get a full list of the actual, unique games all at once.

Thanks for the input!

Adding the original non-translated Japanese and Korean names will be a bit of an undertaking, but I do plan on adding that in the next major update.

I also wanted a way to filter out demos/multimedia/etc. I had been doing this for my own use by auto-filtering out certain genres or developers (I'm looking at you, Ariadne!) in Excel, but I would like to add a "Retail Release" column or something along those lines. The purpose would be to filter out demos and industry discs (stuff like Battery Navi, Time Warner CD, etc.), and leave the retail stuff that most people are trying to (or able to) collect.

Beyond filtering out releases that weren't actually for sale, however, I would essentially be filtering certain genres, and this can already be done using Excel's auto-filter and the genre column. IMO, the best solution is to add a "Games" column so people would have a single, simple toggle to show/hide unique games.

It sounds like the list is still being refined but I was curious, what is the working number of total releases so far?
