The Horde version help

Since I just recently reobtained a 3DO, I still have not yet played The Horde yet. before I pop it in can anyone tell me how to determine the difference between the first version that devoured all the saved data of other games and the second version that did not do that. Is there a way to tell by just looking at the disk. I do not have the long box or the manual. I just do not want to pop this in and have it destroy other saved games I have.
