What is your most hated and most loved 3DO games?

Post by zook1981 » Thu Nov 01, 2012 8:48 pm

no need for top 10 or top 20 just list the games you love the most and a seperate list of games you hate the most and will not play anymore or sold off. Feel free to update if you try a new title and say if hate or love on a different day. My lists are this:

LOVE
Lost Files Of Sherlock Holmes (my favorite)
The Horde
Out OF This World/Another World (love escape games)
Killing Time (The music rules)
Twisted (fun fun)
Pebble Beach Golf (reminds me of when I first bought the system in 95)
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Star Control 2 (Just love the matches)
Shockwave 1
Alone In The Dark
Demolition Man (The game that made me want to 3DO when I was a kid)
Battle Chess
Wolfenstein 3D

HATE
Alone In the Dark 2 (too difficult to play, and a total stray away from the creepy Alone In The Dark 1)
Way Of The Warrior (I used to love it, but just got sick and tired of it, and it was too hard to do fatalities, I can only listen to those same White Zombie songs a certain amount of times before I get a headache)
Monster Manor (I hate this game, terrible grahics, I apologize MM fans)
Family Feud (I had a hard time with this one)
Drug Wars (just aweful cheesy video type game)
Shockwave 2 (too difficult for me and frustrating, I liked the story line of the first one was better too)
Station Invasion (This game is just so stupid it makes me mad just how stupid and corny it is)[/u]

BTW you might be able to tell I dislike super hard and challenging games. I like to play them through over and over again. I love easy mode too.

My list would be too huge, but here is some for each. These are off the top of my head, in no special order, and subject to change ...

LOVE

Bust a move (the original got me hooked on the series)
CPU Bach (hidden Sid Meier gem)
Flashback (awesome on any console)
Gex (great platformer w/some new ideas)
Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes (see all my prior comments)
Need for Speed (pure brilliance)
PaTaank (unique, and addictive)
Super Street Fighter II (incredible port)
Twisted (my favorite)

HATE

Alone In The Dark 2 (broken control)
BC Racers (nearly unplayable)
Mad Dog I (shameful 3DO port)
Plumbers (pathetic garbage)
Stellar 7 (uninspired and far too short)
VR Stalker (ugly and forgettable)
Way of the Warrior (looks great, plays awful)
Most wanted - Eye of Typhoon, 3DO Magazines issues #14 & #15, Pro Stadium, Defcon 5

My list is going to be fairly short for now:

LOVE
Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller (a satisfying chunk of bizarre surrealism)
Iron Angel of the Apocalypse (strange and atmospheric, and appeals to my dungeon crawling enthusiasm)
Night Trap (an unexpected delight, simple and innocent fun)
Psychic Detective (lets you interact with a good story in a fun way)
Slayer (challenging, replayable dungeon crawling, the first 3DO game to really blow me away)
Wolfenstein 3D (smooth, polished, and gets my heart pounding every time)

HATE
Brain Dead 13 (pure trial and error)
Cyberia (poorly designed gameplay and a black hole where storyline should be)
Total Eclipse (not a bad game, but finding a Crystal Dynamics game which is only decent was a huge disappointment for me)

Love (best to least)
Star Control 2 (I'm infatuated. I even love the flaws)
Immercenary (Unique and polished)
Killing Time (I think it's great, except for frame rate)
Alone in the Dark (though, somewhat clunky)
Star Fighter (too long and difficult, though)
Out of this World (hell yeah)
Lucienne's Quest (hell yeah)
Road Rash (never beat it)
The Horde (also too hard)
Lost Eden (hell yeah)
Plumbers Don't Wear Ties (boobity boobie boobs)
... and I must be forgetting some

Hate
BC Racers (depressingly dull)
Quarantine (bad controls, grating music)
Shadow, War of Succession (shameless garbage)
Supreme Warrior (pretty derned infuriating)

The games I love are the ones that defined 3DO as a next generation console. I was a firm believer in 3DO back in the day so I loved the (what are) obvious games and hated the awful games. Keep in mind i was a passionate 3DO fanboi -- for about 20 years LOL.

Loved.

- Need For Speed
- Road Rash
- Wing Commander III
- Lost Eden
- Monster Manor
- Total Eclipse
- Shockwave
- Shockwave 2
- Alone in the Dark
- Novastorm
- D

Hated

- VR Stalker
- BC Racer
- Alone in the Dark 2.
- Those god awful pinball games
- Doom

Hmmm ... I was actually thinking of posting a review on it soon. So stay tuned for my reasons on why I think it's awesome.

Looking forward to that CPU Bach review, Trev. A friend of mine bought it a while ago, but it was the disc only, and we couldn't figure it out.

I'm almost done with it. I expect to be posting it within the next few days. In the meantime though, if you had a question I'd be happy to try and help. It can be confusing if your missing the book. Heck, even though it's one of my favorites, I still had to consult the book for my review as there was stuff I had forgotten about. It really is a deep program.

Yeah CPU Bach is great, I'd love to hear a review, I might even learn something new.

Oh great. Someone reminded me of the pinball game. Ugh. That's gonna wreck my day. :x

I'm floored by the inexcusably bad poor quality of Wacky Races, too, but I don't count that as a game. If I expanded into not-a-game games, that would definitely be #1 on my list.

The sequel is better (though not by a whole lot) At least you can actually race in it.

And for those who mentioned it, I posted my review of C.P.U. Bach. It was kinda a tougher one to review (like most 3DO 'non-games') but I gave it a good shot as it is one of my favorites.

Although this is only a game of Japan ...

[LOVE]
コープスキラー (Only for this game, I did import purchase of the GAME GUN from overseas. )
卒業 FINAL (I am not a "OTAKU." However, this game was interesting. )
時を超えた手紙 (The picture currently drawn was beautiful. )
ドクターハウザー (It died repeatedly..But I was devoted.)
西村京太郎トラベルミステリー『悪逆の季節』 (I think that this is the buried masterpiece! )
カランティーン (Although I think that it is the peak of クソゲー,I would like to praise by myself me who clear it. )

[HATE]
モンタナ・ジョーンズ (Structure was too coarse.)
ファイアボール (I have got bored immediately. )
PaTaank (Screen drunkenness was carried out and it became that it is likely to vomit. )
シャドー・ウォリアー (A motion is too bad!)
Because I make a note using translation software, I think that it becomes a poor English sentence.
I'm sorry.

If there is rude expression, please point it out.
Thanking you in advance.

ドクターハウザー(Dr Hauzer?) is a brilliant game. I played it with support from my Japanese wife and created a guide to play it. It's fantastic.

Did you ever get to play Blue Forest Story on the 3DO?

My wife played the game and loved it, but was it was very hard.

Although it played before, the ブルーフォレスト物語 was difficult and it had resigned it on the way.
However, it is when or soft one to challenge again.

So it did get a Japanese release! Very interesting. The 3DO version is probably the only version of the game to be released overseas.

Mind you, I'm also surprised to see the game on anybody's "love" list, but to each their own!

That's right :D
The corpse killer can play Japan only in 3DO.
I like the game which Digital Pictures made.
Night Trap ,Supreme Warrior ...Therefore, I very regret that the Japanese version of Sewer Shark was not put on the market.

I have this but can't play it at all do to language barriers. Just button mashing through, it does look like high production.

Finally! Someone!

Love:
StarFighter (Freedom, no time limit, feels REAL 3D, music, graphics, sound)
Dr Hauzer (advanced, feels 3D)
Need For Speed (Sound, Speed)
The Horde (the atmosphere, but the gamedesign was to tight, not enough time sometimes)
Phoenix 3 (I play it from time to time)
Space Hulk (atmosphere)
Belzerion (feels like a Snatcher)

Hate:
Shanghai (makes me depressive, because of backgrounds and colors)
VR Stalker (depression)
Road Rash (Music is a catastrophe, what a shame!)
PO'ed (The controls! Horrible)
Defcon 5 (Depression Simulation)
