Saved games & The Horde

Post by Trev » Thu Jan 25, 2007 8:47 pm

I was looking at copies of the Horde on Ebay, but I remember reading that the first batch of discs that were released had a bug that deleted all the 3DO's save files. Anyone know how to identify the fixed version (short of trial & error) I just can't bring myself to purchase the Saturn version.

...and rightly so. Saturn? That's a planet right? It won't help you but the UK Pal version of the Horde doesn't seem to have that problem.

It might help me ... or is the Horde one of those few discs that won't play on an NTSC machine?

i never played my 3DO Horde game just because of that fact

i remember reading this from a faq, so i never used mine
http://www.classicgaming.com/museum/faqs/3dofaq.shtml

[4.13] Hey! I played The Horde, saved a game, and now all of my other non-Horde
saved games in NVRAM are gone! What happened?

A: The first version of The Horde deleted all other non-horde saved games in
NVRAM when you saved a game. Amazingly, this was not a bug.. the game was
designed to do this to give players the maximum amount of ram for Horde saved
games! Crystal Dynamics is aware that this is a problem for most people and
will allow you to exchange your NVRAM devouring copy of the horde, should
you happen to get one, for the latest one (with less of an appetite).

The new version will only allow you to save four games, and will allow you
to delete NVRAM files when it is full.
i could probably test it to see how many saves it gives me on an empty 3do or one that has a few saved games i dont care about anymore.
ive has 3 copies at one point, i just hope i didnt trade away a fixed copy :D in fact i think i will put a note in the Horde box to remind me of this problem

i used the back up ram cart for the saturn when i played the Horde on Saturn

I'm real curious to know what you find out. In the meantime I'll keep playing the demo version on 'Sample This'

It seems to work fine on every system. Even Freedo these days - which is good!

My copy of The Horde comes with an addedum to the instruction manual. It's a paper insert. The front covers these topics: "Seasonal Reports," "Dig," "Employ Knight/Employ Archer," and "Weapon."

The back reads as the following:
Saving & Loading Games

You can save your game at the end of each year. While shopping, select the Save Game item, highlight one of the slots and press the A Button.

You can save up to 4 games.

To load a saved game, press the X Button, highlight the name of the game you want, and then press the A Button.

To delete a saved game, highlight the name of the game you no longer want and then press the C Button.

To delete all SRAM, except for The Horde saved games, press the L Shift and R Shift keys simultaneously.
And then there's a paragraph about Kudzu and there's a serial number on the bottom right: 61030-P. The disc has the serial number 61030-C and "RCB" right below that.

So, if you can find a copy that has this insert, you can be pretty confident you have the right one. I'm not sure if the serial number varies between versions.

mine doesnt have an addedum because mine was pieced together :D

first i had the CD only, then i had the CD and manual, then i had the CD manual and box

but mine has the 61030-C and "RCB" on the CD

i cant test it right now as i have a ton of things piled up in front of my TV and 3DO :D

but its good to know that there is a piece of paper floating around out there to let us know

update

tested my copy out and its the fixed version, it will only let me save 4 games and when i filled up the FZ1's memory it told me to delete some saved files, but on the FZ1 you would have to delete an earlier horde game or 2 untill you can get into the memory with the storage manager
no option came up to delete other items in the memory, just the option to delete all other items in memory as you can see from this picture

click it to see a bigger picture

edit
i have a problem trying to get the cheat codes to work, i followed the instructions in the 3do book but i couldnt get any of them to work
im not sure what im doing wrong, i could always get the saturn codes to work

i hope the fixed version doesnt block the codes or something
