What do you think of the updated forums?

It's been mentioned briefly in a few other threads, but what does everyone think of the new format? Have you gotten used to it?

I admit it's a little strange for me, having been a member of this community since it started back in Jan 2007 the old format was second nature to me. But I guess a forum is a forum.

Getting used to it now but it was a little jarring at the start!

Much easier to work with behind the scenes, so I'm happy with it.

Yeah, that's kind of weird, but I've already gotten used to it.

I haven't gotten used to the user info on the right. I haven't looked for a way to change it but the rest of the change has made things easier for us admins. Several things are possible that I was wishing could be done with the old one, if it had only come a week sooner...

I can manage, but this layout is a step backwards.

It's quite easy to skin phpBB.

I had to change the layout, it was driving me nuts as well. The old layout is subsilver2 (now default), the newer one is prosilver if someone wants to change the way they see it back.

Now I did a mix that I like called Mix. The problem is many buttons show up both clicked and un-clicked as well as the online banner does not overlay the avatar. It instead displays above the picture. Any suggestions on how to fix it sneth? It is available to switch to.

I quite like the new forums, and now you've changed the layout it's definitely better, much more like the old forums. The logo's missing from the top now though.

Yay, it's much closer to the old look now! :D

Although the" phpbb creating communities forum" doesn't have as nice a ring.

With the lack of a logo at the moment, why don't we try and come up with nice shiny new one to match the new forum design? Any artists out there? Here's something I cobbled together:

Well part of the problem is I can't find anything to do with the logo in the administration controls.

Nice!

I can sort this; ideally needs to be 170 by 94 though!

In this case, yes! :)

Has anyone else been getting random "Internal Service Errors"? There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason behind it ... every so often I'll click a thread and get that message. Sometimes it'll repeat, other times fix itself.

I enjoy the new look. Seems to have slightly more editing options as well. I think.

Yeah. I got one earlier today after writing a lengthy post from my phone. Aaaand the post was lost (d'oh!).

Haven't had the issue since I've been at home though.

To change the logo, you have to overwrite the file associated with the theme on the server via FTP.

for the current theme it is styles/subsilver2/imageset/site_logo.gif

Ah, I was looking for a place to upload it and then I could choose it from the list. Didn't realized it had to be done that way.

Maybe Devin can upload up as I don't have the ftp info?

Very nice!

Can you get a better conversion to GIF as that version is a little rough around the edges as is now shown on the forums at the top!

Does it absolutely have to be a gif (as in, the system will not display anything else)?

PNG's are much better in my opinion as they don't have the colour limits GIF files impose. This link explains how to change the image name/type/size/position etc.

https://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/changi ... oard-logo/

If you still need a GIF I will try and convert it again.

Cheers

I'm still getting them. :(

My software won't cleanly convert that PNG to a GIF, it still looks untidy and blocky around the edges. If you want to use a GIF I've done this version which should match the board background:

If it's possible, I say just use the .png file. It looks far better (PNGs always do), and it's not like it's large in size. Just under 9kb.
