3DO FZ-1 with/without cooling fan?

Post by klogg » Sat Oct 24, 2015 2:15 pm

I bought an NTSC FZ-1 model last month, and it doesn't have the cooling fan. My other FZ-1 has it, and my older FZ1, too. Is there a model that has no cooling fan, or my're really missing / been modified? Because I have played with him for a few hours and everything looks normal, it does not heat up at all.

I have a Japanese one that has no fan and it does get quite hot but everything works well. Never seen one with a fan. In terms of cost cutting you would have expected later ones not to have it if wasn't actually necessary. There is a thread somewhere on the forum about how there are actually variants of the fz1.

One has a more noticeable marbled effect on top of machine and is also different sized lettering used for the text on the face of the machine. Perhaps someone can confirm if earlier or later ones had fans.

I think the fan is a bit of a failure anyway, it doesn't seem like it pushes much warm air out of the system if you put your hand by the vents.

Thanks Retrofanatic, I've found the thread http://www.3do.cdinteractive.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=222.
I have both models, the earlier and the later one, interesting enough, the mine that doesn't have the cooler fan is the earlier model (in the thread, they both have).
