So here are the standings as i see them, after just one day back in the saddle:

Coastal total: Me
Coastal top speed: Me
Coastal one: Me
Speed: Me
Coastal two: Gunstar
Speed: Me
Coastal three: Me
Speed: Gunstar

City Total: Gunstar
City top speed: tied
City one: Me
Speed: tied
City Two: Me
Speed: Me
City 3: Me
Speed: Me

Alpine total: Me
Alpine top speed: Me
Alpine one: Me
Speed: Me
Alpine two: Gunstar
Speed: Me
Alpine three: Me
Speed: Me

So if each route is marked out of 8, because we havent counted average times, we have so far:

Coastal:
Me = 6
Gunstar = 2

City:
Me = 5
Gunstar = 1

Alpine:
Me = 7
Gunstar = 1

Total out of 24 possible:
Me = 18
Gunstar = 4

Get practicing bud ;) Being the best in the world means you have to beat me as well :)

On my lunch break they have the Retro Game Trader store and they apparently just got it in. In fair condition for $20. Long box, instructions everything.

I really shouldn't of, I should of spent the money on other more necessary things but it was right there and wouldn't have stayed for long. So I just did it.

I'm a bad bad man.

I have played this game on the PSX only. Back in the day my friend rented it and we played it. And last year when I bought a copy for my cousin (PSX) from the Portland Retro Gaming Expo for a dollar.

Now I finally get this iconic game in its original form. :)

I am learning this pretty fast I think. I might have to kick the difficulty up a notch.

@NeoGeoMan 8)

Are you playing this on a PAL/50hz console, or are you running an NTSC machine?

At some point, I hope to get a US FZ-1, as I suspect it will run the majority of my PAL collection correctly.

I had a JP unit briefly and, have to say, the in game resolution was affected quite heavily/negatively by the full screen/60hz, whoch I didn't expect. NFS & RR looked MUCH sharper running at 50hz...

Its not hard at all. On Alpine you can floor it all the way to the right hander going up the hill, you will very easily hit 195+ on the way down the hill if you dont hit a car.

On Coastal, you can get 202.7mph if you want to hold it flat to the end of the long straight, which results in hitting the wall at the speed, but it can indeed be done.

No mate ive got a Japan FZ-10. The PAL region consoles that ive seen such as the FZ-10-E dipsplayed the same 640x480 resolution within a window on the 768x576 total frame, hence the boarder all the way around and illusion of better sharpness.

It is not the case at all, they both run the games at the exact same resolution, just that one of them doesnt use the whole screen to do it. The 60Hz part has nothing to do with it either, the games all still run at the same frame rate on both consoles, and its not 60fps anyway.

There is every chance it looked nicer because your TV was better calibrated for PAL than it was NTSC, which is quite often the case, and PAL encoding has a better colour reproduction than NTSC. They both come in 50Hz and 60Hz flavours, in some parts of Asia they use or did use NTSC at 50Hz and it is the same 768x576i that PAL50 is.

This is why its best to use RGB, then there is no PAL or NTSC.

Too bad I can't find my gamepads for 3DO to check the saves of NFS and look for my records. More worse that the battery which keep NVRAM saves could be discharged.

I put in a little time on NFS today to see how close I can come to the times in this thread. I seem to be at least 1 minute behind the fastest times on the first segments. Guess I'll need a lot more practice :)
