3DO Kid or 360 Kid - not bloodly likely!!!

Ah well it had to happen. I got a 360. It's weird, but I'm clearly now tainted - trapped in the early 90's gaming.

I played Gears of War. Yeah alright. Looks nice. Fine. NEXT! Next was PGR3... It's OK. The graphics look weird. The tree's look extra weird. I haven't figured out why - but they spook me.

I'm just not excited. In fact - I'm bored. The same with the Wii. And more or less the same for the PS3, which actually redeems itself thanks to streaming media - which isn;t a game and the imported version of Wangan. Which is Japanese and the game I singularly have enjoyed the most - but I think the enjoyment came from figuring out what's going on in the Japanese menus, rather than the game itself.

I was more excited about Older Games games. I've enjoyed Novastorm more than anything else and right now I'm twitching with glee at the idea Zero 5 and Pitfall for the Jag...

There is no hope...

I agree w/you for the most part (w/the strong exception of the Wii which I think is exciting ... what made you decide to spring for a 360?) Gaming does not excite me nearly as much now either. The new 3DO releases were definitley my gaming highlight of this year so far! We are a rare breed indeed ...

P.S. Now you got me in the mood to pop Pitfall into my Jag. Think I will after a round of Novastorm.

Agreed.

New Games fail to amaze me for some reason. Multi-million poly counts? Pffft. Give me sprites.

modern gaming honestly has went down so fast. I play them only to say "Whoa, I didnt know the machine could draw that much polys per sec!". Today's game lost all elements of fun which were so mainstream in the early 90's

*sigh*

What I'm not liking about GoW is the cluttered dirty feeling.

This is going to be hard to explain. Virtua Fighter 1 didn't feel cluttered. Nice straight lines. It felt fresh and light and airy. And i loved that game. Tekken 1 felt confined and i didn't really enjoy it.

Shoot forward 12 years. I love Ridge Racer, there is a certain elegance to the game, and it feels clean. Motorstorm? Nah. Exactly the opposite.

Half Life 2 is brilliant, felt light, it's bright and fun. GoW? - it feels horrible.

Favourite game for feeling uncluttered? Starblade.

If you want good games for the 360, get Far Cry, unless you have it for the PC and Dead Rising. Good stuff there.

And you HAVE to get on live and download yourself Geometry Wars, a good old fashioned shooter.

Just don't blame me when your hands cramp :) Oh yeah, and don't beat my score!

The 360 kind of interests me, but really only for Xbox Live Arcade. There are a few downloadable games I think I could get into. I honestly can't name one regular release that I'd buy.

I'm not entirely convinced the 360 is a quality product. I put a big ol' greasy finger print (by accident) on my Gears of War disc - the error message from this Microsoft product because it couldn't read the disc?

It said "Please insert disc into Xbox 360" - I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. nice.

My 3DO never did that. My jaguar occasionally red screens if a cartridge isn't quite right but at least it doesn't tell me to insert the cartridge into an Atari Jaguar - because that would be stupid.

Oh yeah, that's another thing... I actually was tempted to get a 360 at one point for XBLA. But the thought of a $400 machine breaking down on me was a major turn-off. Given all the "red ring of death" problems and the bad experience I had with the original Xbox (motherboard just up and died for no apparent reason), I just didn't have the confidence my money wouldn't go to waste.

Not all of them die just most of them. Every unit seems doomed for eventual failure anyway... But of my 3 friends who own one, none have had trouble yet. Knock on wood.

The same realization hit me the other day, but it was about magazines. I would rather read an old EGM than a new Game Informer. (*sh!t*, maybe I'm getting old!)

I'm only interested in one game when I get my 360, and that's NHL 08.

Well I got Halo 3 today. I played it for about 20 minutes. Got bored and tried to finish Power Kingdoms again. True story.

I think anticipation plays a big part of any game, and I was looking forward to Halo 3 as some one looks forward to go to the Dry cleaners. You know you going to have to go and when you do it's going to cost £30.00

One of the guys who works for a company I go and see had Halo 3 on pre-order for a year. A year!

So I had Halo 3 for the weekend, got to the point where I peered over a ledge into this compound, some git was shooting me, realised my weapon, a sort of plamsa granade thrower, only had 6 rounds left, and I thought F**k-it, i can't be ar*ed.

So i traded it. :)

Relevant!

Man, maybe I should move out there. Two Brits say boo when all the Yanks I know are worshipping the game.
