Ok, I have some encoding work ahead of me here...

There are 3DO focus group tapes here, "the making of" tapes for certain 3DO games, unreleased 3DO game footage tapes, etc. etc...

oh man! I keep my 3do stuff at work so the wife doesn't see what I'm spending but I wouldn't need to if bitrate marries me!

we should start a pre-order fund. Bitrate, I mean Trip, how much money would it costs to get those in AVI format or something?

I'd pay a lot to have copies ;) Who is with me?

I was going to suggest something similar - I for one would be happy to contribute. Only if bitrate's cool with it - really there's no pressure its just that if he doesn't we will find out where he lives and make him play bc racers for two days straight while writing an essay on why plumbers is culturally significant!

..and more two days playing Mazer.. err. but then he will die, and nobody will get the videos.

With you but for DVD!

Avi would be better,as you could fit more per disc. Most modern Dvd players play Avi files these days anyway. You could later take the Avi stuff and convert it over to whatever format you desired later on too.

I prefer quality over quantity, and you can always turn a DVD into DivX in no time.

I agree with you, everytime someone puts a photo of sth unique everyone jumps on him to dump it copy it....anyway it would be really great to see whats in those tapes but i know how difficult and time eater is to encode them! So i dont give much hope... :D

You're not going to have it much better either way when the original source is VHS :P. If it was Super VHS,then maybe Id care a tad more about the final product. Just as it stands, asking him to do it all in normal dvd quality may take up alot of his time and resources, and kill his burner by the end of it all. Doing Avi would cut down on the amount of disc he would have to burn and possibly the encoding time.

All speculation anyway, as he hasn't said hed be interested in doing such a product or service. If he decides to,cool,if not,no big deal either way. Im one of those" Id rather play the final product, then watch the making of" types. Im the same way with movies too. I never mess with the extras, commentary, ect if I can help it. Its cool though that the stuff gets archived. Just not my interest.

Id prob be interested in getting a set of these tapes burned off, sure, just to have. Is it likely Id watch them all,no. Id prob skim a few here and there just to check the quality, then Id stow the stuff away. Theres so much content there it looks like Id never have the time anyway.

Awesome, just awesome

would i like to watch them?
i cant say no to that, and i would watch every minute of them

am i going to ask him to convert them?
No way

but if he wanted to convert them and didnt have the time i would offer my services, but right now i dont have any way to get video onto my computer :D

The only reason I mentioned the encoding, is because Bitrate does in the original message. :)

Also, I don't expect him to do for nothing, should he decide to do so. :)

My pleasure. It's nice to be able to share these kinds of things with people who can appreciate what they are.

Don't do that! We need all the 3DO collectors we can get.

I'm glad to see the enthusiasm over the pictures. Like I said, it's nice to see people get excited over some of this old 3DO stuff.
How about I encode one of the shorter tapes first (I will probably go MPEG 2 or 4 unless people have serious objections to it) and then throw it up on an FTP. I seriously doubt I will youtube most of these... although I might do a couple that showcase some of the unreleased games.

Some of the focus group tapes are funny to watch. Technological feats that are common place today seem so magical and nebulous to the people being interviewed in the tapes.
"Interactive" and "Multimedia" are really exicting terms that are thrown around in the focus group tapes. :D

Helgeson, in video you can always add noise to noise. :)

"Multimedia"... wasn't that a CD-i buzzword? LOL

Whoa! Scaling, rotation, 16.7 million colors, REAL Pixels, FULL-MOTION video, interactive movie, state of the art 32 bit processing, its not real its REAL 3DO. Early 90's buzz words rule!

well I'll just about watch anything ! I for one am equally interested in the making ofs as I am in the focus group tapes. To me they are some kind of twisted surreal time capsule that are a stark reminder of how far we have actually come both socially and technically.
They are actually quite valuable from a historical (hysterical!) point of view and it is probably vital that at some point they are put on less volitile media.

Maybe bitrate's name will be in lights at the smithsonian one day! (or maybe they already are?)

My money is on him being Dave Needle !

After seeing these pics, I have sheltered myself in the corner of the basement. I am curled up in the fetal position, sucking my thumb and clutching my fz-1 close to my chest, all while muttering the Captain Quazar rap. Ocasionally the wife comes down to chcek for a pulse.

No begging, but I gotta know ... WHERE DO YOU GET THIS STUFF? Did you ever work in the industry? You can be vague, but just give me an idea is all.

I will be swithcing my name to 3DO Rookie very soon.
