Lemmings - A classic?

So many people say this is such a great game ... so why don't I seem to think so??? :? I see the potential, but I am having a very hard time ignoring all it's flaws. Maybe I'm getting too harsh in my old age ...?

Question the 1st ... does the pc version (or any other version for that matter) control good? Cuz the 3DO control sucks! A mouse should be listed as required hardware, as the pad is about as useful w/this game as it is w/an ALG shooter! Lousy control makes the very weak graphics, and hit or miss sound stand out even more.

A rant to be continued ...

PC version controls fine. I can't remember If i tried the mouse on the 3do with lemmings or not but it should control ok.

I used to really like lemmings but then there was a point where the puzzles got instantly frustrating and made no sense. Back when I last played the game, I just gave up and didnt bother looking up solutions. It was just that bad. I might go back to the game and try again though but I have so much other stuff i could play instead.

I played it on the Amiga and PC, and I enjoyed it. I've played it on the 3DO too but you're right Trev, without a mouse it's rubbish.

(Trev? You don't have a 3DO?)

(Trev? You don't have a 3DO?)
:?: :?: :?: I do have a 3DO (fz-1) Did I word my post funny?

At least the mouse makes it playable, but like BryWI said some of the later puzzles ...

Question the 2nd ... why do games like this employ time limits? It is so cheap! Is it not challenging enough just to solve the puzzle? Why add on needless (and often ridiculous) time restrictions? Way to ruin a good concept ... for me anyway

I meant 'Mouse' 3DO Mouse.

I'm an idiot. Ignore me.

Ah, makes more sense now (the mouse I mean, not you being an idiot)

Yeah, I do have a mouse. It helps, but I still think that Lemmings is overrated. I plan on posting a review to point out its flaws.

Massive thread dig up!

I'm a big fan of lemmings from back in the amiga days, and have been hunting for a complete Jap copy of this. Regardless of whether you guys like it or not, how does it compare to other versions? Oh, and how hard is it to pick up a 3do mouse?

Japanese 3DO mice aren't incredibly hard, just hard really. If you set up a eBay search and get it to email you when it finds one, probably just a few weeks in waiting, depending on region.

Ultimately, Lemmings is Lemmings, it is what it is, if you let it take over, it will :)

3dokid, i'm disappointed after reading a good few of your posts, that your reply wasnt more along the lines of "how hard are 3do mice to pick up? Easy, one hand is all they should take, they're only light". I don't know, I leave you the opening..............

I personally can't see too many flaws in Lemmings. There are traits some may not like, such as the time limit, but they are by no means "flaws". If you're not used to the game, or you're playing on a high difficulty level, or it's just not your cup 'o tea, that's a different story altogether. Asides from that, it's an excellent port of the PC game. I tested out my 3DO mouse with this a few weeks back as well, and can say it plays just like the computer game with one. If my experiences with the 16-bit versions of this game are anything to go by, don't bother with if you're stuck with the d-pad.

Forgot all about this thread (and the review I promised like 2 years ago ... see 3DOKid, its not just you  )

I'll try Lemmings again ... it is tough though when I look at the whole package.

Besides the subpar control (I'll detail specifics after I play it again) and the stupid employing of a time limit (it is a very cheap way to tack on needless challenge, I'm sorry) the graphics are hideously 8 bit, and the sound is just all over the map ("She'll be coming round the mountain" *gag*)

I've only ever played Lemmings on 3DO. Maybe I'm harsher cause I don't have the nostalgia factor. Or maybe I've been spoiled by the Incredible machine. I don't know.

I didn't even bother to read this either, sorry! Basically, it's just like the original PC game, especially if you play it with the mouse. The music is remixed, that's all. It's probably on par with the PlayStation version.
