Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation is a compilation of 4 my 3DO games.
They used to be available as seperate releases but are now combined in one.
In addition to that, all the games have been improved to some degree :
They run faster, have some minor corrections, a new sound engine..
This is optimised for NTSC and it will not look properly on a PAL 3DO.
(But it should be playable)
If you want to change games, you have to reset the console.
Unfortunely, it seems to suffer from memory leaking so i prevented the games from going
to the main menu.
All games, except Hinote the delivery man, supports saving.
The games are :
Unlucky Pony
It has better fading/transitions and some minor corrections.
The game over track had to be removed due to copyright issues.
Hinote the delivery man
Some changes were made due to copyright issues.
Helicopters
A clone of Swing Copters, nearly identical to the first release.
KillMinds
A game based on Quartet.

How to play this game on a real 3DO
To burn the game, you need a blank CD-R and the software ImgBurn.
You need to burn at a very low speed, if possible.
Early Goldstars are not known to be unable to play backups. (reason unknown)
DONT USE CHEAP CD-Rs OR ELSE YOUR LASER WILL WEAR OUT MUCH FASTER,
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR POTENTIAL DAMAGES !
I plan to sell this game on a real CD with a case, manual...
Let me know here if you are interested !

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
I am glad to see you are still working on 3DO development. Keep up the good work!
Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
Thank you guys !
So far, 2 guys are interested to buy this, should this be released in a physical format at all.
Importing Gold CD-Rs here in France however is pretty expensive so i started to look at other options.
I have contacted Piko Interactive and DragonBox asking them if they were interested selling the game.
I have still to get a reply from them...
The good news is that i found the perfect box for this game and it should be a lot more solid
than those jewel cases.
It seems that i may have to import those Gold CD-R...
I don't want to be responsible for wearing out 3DO lasers.

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
I downloaded the gameblablacompil_3do.7z file, but when I try to open it, 7z says it cannot open the file. I tried Winrar but it says the file is corrupt.
I downloaded it multiple times to be sure.
Has everyone else been able to open the archive?
I'd like to try this on my FZ-1

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
I replaced the drive in my FZ-1 and since then it has not been able to read CD-r discs, so I will be unable to test this.
Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
Aw man, sorry to hear this.Austin wrote:I replaced the drive in my FZ-1 and since then it has not been able to read CD-r discs, so I will be unable to test this.
But can it still play official games though ? You might want to try rubbing the laser with some alcohol, if you have not already done that.
Sometimes though, it is not always the laser the culprit, you may have to replace the old capacitors.

NO! Alcohol makes the lens opaque!blabla wrote:You might want to try rubbing the laser with some alcohol, if you have not already done that.Austin wrote:I replaced the drive in my FZ-1 and since then it has not been able to read CD-r discs, so I will be unable to test this.

Really ? hmm...Versus wrote: NO! Alcohol makes the lens opaque!
Then there's nothing wrong using compressed air on the laser ?

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
I'm going to wager it probably not being the caps due to CDrs functioning prior to the drive swap.blabla wrote:Aw man, sorry to hear this.Austin wrote:I replaced the drive in my FZ-1 and since then it has not been able to read CD-r discs, so I will be unable to test this.

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
Hmm... i don't know but in theory, with the 3DO IDE modification and a new firmware for it supporting the OperaFS filesystem,
it should be possible to simply plug a new CD-ROM IDE drive and play all your official games.
But i don't know if the russians are even willing to do that...
Yeah, you might want to replace the caps anyway, it could be a coincidence.
(plus they are getting old and they will leak sooner or later)

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
Add me on to that list. While I haven't played it in a while, I still have fond memories of Unlucky Pony, and have been wanting to get around to playing your Delivery Man and other games. Would be very nice to have all of these on one official disc. Great to hear that you're sticking with the 3DO development!blabla wrote:Thank you guys !

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
Guys, i'm not sure if i should release this game on a physical copy.
I contacted DragonBox and i was asking them if they were interested and they told me the strict minimum they can make is 500 copies.
They already struggled to sell the Fruit'y game for Dreamcast so needless to say they refused to carry it.
I have estimated that the game would sell for 30$ in a physical format. (case, manual, high-quality CD)
I might lessen the quality a bit (silver-coated CD) or remove some things like the manual.
What do you think ? How much would you pay for a 3DO release ?
I think it might be a good idea to ask Good Deal Games as well...
The good news is though is that KillMinds is going to have improved graphics, stay tuned.

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
Hey, if people are willing to spend over $60 on Plumbers Don't Wear Ties...blabla wrote:What do you think ? How much would you pay for a 3DO release ?
So this is a disc which would not wear out my 3DO's laser any more than any official 3DO disc, right? I'd willingly put up 40 US dollars for it, myself. Possibly more.
Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
So i guess pricing should not be an issue, good !Martin III wrote:Hey, if people are willing to spend over $60 on Plumbers Don't Wear Ties...blabla wrote:What do you think ? How much would you pay for a 3DO release ?

Sadly... when i contacted DragonBox for a potential release, Michael told me that the smallest print for pressed CDs is 500 copies !
So needless to say he was not very willing to do it, unless it's really good. (which is sadly not the case)
I thought about Good Deal Games but it turns out their CDs are not pressed and thus, they are wearing out the drive's laser...
Piko Interactive has not answered to my emails... Perhaps i should try to bug them on Twitter at some point.
That's a shame but not very surprising, i'm glad i did not open pre-orders prematurely.
When MiniLD is over, i will expand Evil Australians with more levels and add it to this compilation.
I don't want to release a game that will kill 3DO's because of crappy cds so don't expect a release any time soon.
Sorry

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
No worries; to be honest I'd have been surprised if this sort of thing were reasonably doable. I just thought it would be good to let you know there was interest in it either way.

It seems that anything less than glass mastered is a laser drain.
What came after the Jaguar was the PS1 which for all it's greatness, ushered in corporate development and with it the bleached, repetitive, bland titles which for the most part we're still playing today. - David Wightman

I tried your homebrew, it looks like they only work in emulators. I have the USB Host by mnemo. I included a video of me trying the homebrew.

BulletBob is a character from the PC video game Blade Runner(1998).
You can call me Kris. I am obsessed with the 3DO.
Has anyone dumped the bios of the fz-fv1, fz-fv10 or fz-ems256 yet?

Re: Gameblabla's Crappy Compilation
I noticed back in time that it didn't work and from what I heard, the original author doesn't have a real 3DO.
From my recent experience, it's quite easy with certain code in the C compiler I use to make it just freeze in real 3DO but work properly in all emulators. Simple things like non aligned 32bit read will fail in this old ARM cpu. Sometimes, I will do something with shorts and the compiler will not produce correct code, but that will not show on real 3DO.
So, I guess without testing on real 3DO, there is a big chance that it might not work.
I was thinking to check if the code from this is released and try to compile make it work. I remember I had the same issue with another game of the author for a ludum dare, evil australians, and the code was released and I thought about trying to fix it but didn't have the time and abandoned it.
Maybe I'll try again at some point, all those homebrews are rare for the 3DO, and it would be just small fixes to make them work.
