New demo (STNICCC 2000 animation)

Yesterday I released a new demo/benchmark for 3DO.

ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/optimus/ ... 00_3do.zip

It's based on a competition in Pouet (a demoscene site) to port a famous animation (list of polygons per frame really) from the original AtariST demo to your favorite platform. I thought that would be a good candidate for 3DO, especially to test the CEL rendering with pure untextured polygons. It fairs pretty well on the real 3DO (from over 60 to 120 fps, the emulators will show faster though), and I also have a software rendering version for comparsion (almost 10 times slower). There is also a demo version which runs with the original music and vsynced at 50/60 fps.

looks sweet. I wish star blade would have been made like this :-D

i wonder what opensource stuff could be ported from the acorn or atari st to the 3DO. The acorn uses arm cpus and its slower that the 3do.

An interesting conversion of this project to a texture mapping benchmark. Might release it soon, after I fix few more final things.

It wouldn't be hard to port even later games. Also, to port directly from AtariSt would be more cumbersome since it uses bitlplanes, there would be conversion, or maybe just conversion of graphics. And maybe acorn too has it's own vram structure. But I guess, since we have the CEL, if most of these games are 2d and if there is mostly C code, maybe it would be ok to port and could just replace sprite rendering with CEL quads. I think many games could be ported if there is time and motivation, but now I am focused on other projects and will see if I decided and which games would be.

Here is the final of this project with demo and benchmark options

And here is an emulator capture of the demo (because I don't have capture equipment for real 3DO and it looks not blurry and smooth here).

Download links for the demo is at Pouet http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=80976
